Amazon Eco Lodge

Amazon Eco Lodge is the beautiful rainforest eco lodge in Amazonas located 80 km (50 miles) from Manaus. For almost 30 years Amazon Lodge has been the best way to visit the unspoiled brazilian primary rainforest. The lodge is located within a 337 ha private nature reserve of unspoild primary rainforest on Rio Juma. It is very beautiful almost lika en ecological park. It´s probably the lodge with the best location inviting its guest to see and experience the real rainforest and it so easy to like the jungle tours in this area..

What a great experience to visit the amazon rainforest and wake up to the scream of the howler monkeys in the thick and dense rainforest! Learn about the wildlife and the amazonian way of doing things during your visit at the lodge. We have jungle packages and eco tours of three and four nights and also an exciting five nights jungle Safari including three out in the jungle in the brazilian jungle for those who dare.

It actually does not matter if it is high - or low level water, because the lodge is always floating on the river. It is also highly recommendable to take a swim in the warm and black river water all year round. The water temperature is usualy 26-32 degrees Celsius. Because of the acidity of waters, mosquitos and viruses which cause dengue, cholera, malaria, yellow fever etc. do not proliferate in the area and mosquitos are usually uncommon in this region.

Amazon Eco Lodge is located 80 km (50 miles) from Manaus, on the southbank of the Amazon River, on the Parana do Mamori River system, upstream from Rio Juma. The lodge has "Standard Ecological Lodging" classifiction by the Brazilian Tourism Bureau and is the real ecolodge in the Amazonas for more than 30 years. The Amazon Lodge consists of a central "open air" swimming module, where it is so nice to take a swim in the warm river water.

There are 18 apartments , in which 16 of these are classified as standard with two single beds (8 with private shower and sanitary installations), and another two suites with matrimonial beds, all with mosquito screens, 3 central sanitary installations and showers and veranda with hammocks. Total maximum capacity is 36 travellers in double rooms. Fans are available for all rooms. There is a reception and bar - with comfortable sofas, hammocks and chairs, perfect for relaxing before and after excursions. Restaurant - typical architecture - rustic and all mosquito screened with a great atmosphere for experimenting the delicious local cuisine. Recreation area with a large swimming terrace where you can sunbathe, read or relax with nature. The lodge has a generator with 110V energy available at night only. No hot water is available (water temperature is usually 26-32 degrees Celsius). The lights for the rooms, as well as the service area, are supplied by 12 V battery lights.

All of the tours depart from the Amazon Eco Lodge in wooden canoes from the main deck. Please feel free during your leisure time to use our wooden dugout canoes for 2 people and paddle along the river, lakes and flooded woodland. We kindly urge you to actively participate in not disturbing the natural wild life.

Our trip to the Amazon was perfect. I highly recommend the Ecolodge! I would encourage others to go there. Apparently, it is the oldest overnight lodge in the Amazon. They cook fish straight from the Amazon and buy fruit from the locals. It is a really authentic experience. They planned just enough outings for us--crocodile catching, jungle walk, Parana catching--etc. The Ecolodge is for people who really want to experience the Amazon. I think they have the best guides and services. However, it is not a place for people who want to sit by the pool, sip cocktails and look at the Amazon from the window. - Jesse Luxford

Day 1 - Afternoon transfer with departure at 13:00 h. Transfer by van or bus from Manaus airport or hotel to Ceasa market port and from there by boat/van/speedboat to the Lodge. Dinner upon arrival. Approximate departure at 08:00pm in a guided motorized canoe , in search of alligators, called "caimans". Once they are paralyzed by the light of the flashlight, their eyes go red, enabling the guide to easily locate them. The guide will then try to catch one with his bare hands (depending on size) bringing it aboard the canoe for observation. The caiman is safely returned to the water afterwards. . Overnight.

Day 2 - Breakfast. Approximate departure at 08:30 hrs on a guided motorized canoe to visit the river area inlets and flooded forest. . Buffet lunch. Approximate departure at 15:00 hrs on a guided motorized canoe to try to catch local fishes, such as tucunaré , tambaqui and piranha. Once this experience has been enjoyed, our guide will show you how to prepare and roast your catch out in the rainforest. . Buffet dinner. Overnight.

Day 3 - Breakfast.. Approximate departure at 09:00 hrs. on a guided motorized canoe to an appropriate area to enter the jungle. The guide will lead you on a trek through the rainforest, explaining about the local flora and fauna. Buffet lunch. Afternoon Visit to native caboclo dwelling. Appoximate departure at 15:00 hrs. in a guided motorized canoe to learn about the customs and way of life of these native inhabitants, descendants of the indians.Buffet dinner. Overnight.

Day 4 - Morning transfer back to Manaus for arrival at 12.00 h. Drop off at airport or Hotel.

Yes, we did enjoy our trip very much, and especially the Amazon Eco Lodge. The Eco Lodge was very clean, good food, great guides fluent in English, and good expeditions with pretty many animal sightings. I would recommend it. - Katie Loehnig

Notes:
*Because of the waters acid ph, mosquitoes and viruses which cause dengue, cholera, malaria, yellow fever, and etc. do not proliferate in the area.
*The eletricity is limited to evening hours although the service area and kitchen are available all day long;
*Radios and guns are strictly forbidden (walkmans, MP3 players are o.k.);
*Transfers and local excursions are on regular basis (no guarantee of air-conditioning on any of the transports);
*Hot water is not available in the bathrooms;
*For safety procedures, maximum luggage allowance on boat is 5 Kg (11 lbs) per person. Main luggage can be stored in our office in Manaus which has appropriate storing facilities.
*Our packages include full board (brazilian breakfast, lunch & dinner buffet style). Mineral water is included during the whole trip. Coffee and juices are served during the breakfasts only. Soft drinks and other beverages may be purchased at the bar.

Transfers: Departures: 13:00. transfer takes about 4 hours. The transfer to the lodge on its own is an amazing and beautiful tour. The lodge is located inside a huge nature reserve consisting of untouched primary rainforest. The transfer from Manaus to the lodge or vice-versa is divided as follows:
Part 1: Manaus/Ceasa port - by van or bus (30 minutes).
Part 2: Ceasa port/Careiro town - by regional boat crossin the river Amazonas via the meeting of the waters. Duration about 45 minutes.
Part 3: Careiro/Araca - by van for about 45 minutes.
Part 4: Araca/Amazon Lodge- by speedboat, around 1 hour 30.

ADD INFO: Tours are held with our Native Caboclo Guides , who were born and raised in this unique area of the rainforest and who have learned English on their own, interrelating with all the different guests..
