This river trip takes us to the south of
Venezuela to the Gran Sabana to visit the Angel Fall. Concerning the landscape
this trip is one of the most beautiful in Venezuela. Impressive views
of the table mountains, the Angel Fall and the Gran Sabana are expecting
us. Especially during the rainy saison (June-November) there are a lot
of visitors. On our trip we try to avoid the crowd. Most of them start
the tour from Canaima. We start our trip from Kavac, where we use indian
canoes to go down the Akanan and the Carrao river. We always have the
chance to make little walks. The hike to the Angel Fall is the most amazing,
we walk about 1,5 hours through rainforest, easely uphill till we reach
the vantage point right in front of the Angel Fall. During this trip we
spend the nights in hammocks with mosquito nets in simple camps. This
tour can only be booked in the rainy season (June-November).
Day 1 8am Flight from Ciudad Bolivar to
Kavac. Trip to the Kavac-Canyon. Hammocks. (-/L/D)
We take a light plane from Ciudad Bolívar to Kavac. If weather
permits we will have an impressive view of the Gran Sabana and its
Tepuis. We arrive at the picturesque Indian village Kavac situated
right at Auyan-Tepui, where we spend the night. In the afternoon we
hike to the Kavac Canyon. To get to the impressive waterfall we
have to swim through the small canyon.
Day 2 Boat trip on the Acanan river.
Hammocks. (B/L/D)
In the morning we hike or drive to the neighbour village Kamarata, where
our trip by canoe begins. The blackwater-river Acanan takes us to the
magic world of the godlike Indian mountains. At the foot of the
Auyan Tepui primeval forest and savanna alternate. We stay in a
camp called Iwana Meru.
Day 3 Boat trip on the Acanan river to
the Arenal Camp. Hammocks. (B/L/D)
After breakfast we return to the river. Absorbed in the fascinating scenery
we get to Río Carrao, which we follow until we see Wei Tepui.
Before we get to the camp we have to pass a big rapid, the ¨Garganta
del Diablo¨.
Day 4 Boat trip to the Base Camp and hiking
to the Angel Fall, the highest waterfall of the world (972 m). Hammocks.
(B/L/D)
In the early morning we start towards Salto Angel. Soon we see the small
river Churun, which leads us to the Angel Fall. As we are going upstream
our speed depends on the water level. In the dry season it is possible
that we have to leave the canoe often, so that the natives can pull it
upriver. We walk for 1,5 hours through rainforest with ferns, palms and
countless other plants. Standing on a plateau we can see the entire Angel
Fall. We take a break and then walk downhill to a lagoon where we take
a refreshing bath. In the afternoon we return to our camp.
Day 5 Boat trip to Canaima. Flight Canaima-Ciudad
Bolívar. (B/L/-)
We go downstream on the river Carrao. We pass the island of orchids
