sample itinerary we have carefully developed - with convenient day stops.
We will be happy to modify this accordingly to your wishes: maybe a shorter
trip - or maybe a more off-road trip leading into the Andes? Just let
us know the days you´d like to have the car in each region and we
will send you a sample itinerary. After booking you will receive the detailed
day-by-day route descriptions. We will provide you with information for
intersting side-trips, detours, museums, points of interests and of course
- with the best restaurants.
Day 1 - Airport pick up in Antofagasta
Drive along the Pacific Ocean with beaches and sand dunes including La
Portada. Continue to Mejillones.
Overnight in Antofagasta in hotel of your choice
100 km paved road
Day 2 - Drive to Calama through the
desert. See the Old railway station Baquedano and the ormer Saltpeter
mine Chacabuco. Drive to San Pedro de Atacama, see sunset in the Valle
de la Luna (Moon Valley)Overnight in San Pedro in hotel of your choice.
320 km paved road
Day 3 - Visit Museum Padre Le Paige
and the church. See the surrounding villages, climb sand dunes in the
Valle de la Muerte. See Tulor and Quitor, pre-Inka settlements. Overnight
in San Pedro in your selected hotel.
70 to 100 km unpaved road
Day 4 -Drive to historic Toconao,
Explore the Salar de Atacama, See flamingos at Laguna Chaxa
Continue to the Lakes Miscanti and Meniques, 4.000 mts altitude (pick-up
or Jeep required). Overnight in San Pedro in your selected hotel.
120 km to the Salar de Atacama
250 km to the Lakes (round trip)
Day 5 - Book an optional organized excursion to the Geysers of El Tatio (road is in very bad condition and you have to start at 4:00 a.m. to see the sunrise). Overnight in San Pedro in hotel of your choice
Day 6 - Drive back to Calama. Visit
the world largest copper mine Chuquicamata and see picturesque village
Chui Chui with one of the oldest churches in Chile. Drive to Tocopilla,
a very nice beach resort at the pacific ocean. Overnight in Tocopilla
or Antofagasta in hotel of your choice
Drive 250 km to Tocopilla or 450 km to Antofagasta on paved road
Day 7 - Return car in airport Antofagasta
