The Border

On the day following arrival in historic Manaus the group will fly to Sao Gabriel da Cachoeira on the Upper Negro River near the Venezuelan/Brazilian border. From Sao Gabriel the group will embark on a motorboat journey up the Negro River and past the Vaupes, Isana and Xie Rivers, legendary rivers in the history of Amazon exploration. Depending on river conditions the objective of the tour is to combine motorboat travel with visits to villages of the local native people. Features include beach and forest camping, canoeing, trekking, fishing, wildlife photography, medicine plants, arts & crafts etc. The tour will end back at Sao Gabriel.

DAY 01 - Arrive Manaus and transfer IN to hotel. Welcome dinner at Bufalo BarBQ restaurant
Overnight at the Lider Hotel

DAY 02 - Transfer OUT to airport. Depart Manaus @ 6.30 am, (RICO Airlines)
Arrive Sao Gabriel @ 9.00 am. Transfer to motorboat for beginning of tour

DAY 03-04 - Travel up the Rio Negro River to local communities of the Vaupes River

DAY 05-06 - Travel up the Rio Negro River to local communities of the Isana River

DAY 07-09 - Travel up the Rio Negro River to local communities of the Xie River

DAY 10 - Group returns to Sao Gabriel from the Vaupes River
Overnight at the Hotel Vaupes

DAY 11 - Depart Sao Gabriel @ 9.00 am (RICO airlines). Arrive Manaus @ 11.30 am and transfer IN to hotel. Transfer OUT to airport for departure

Price per person: US$3222. Minimum 2 persons. Students aged 13-19 pay 25% less with 2 adults. Children 12 and under pay 50% less with 2 adults. Groups of 4 or more reserving together get a 20% discount.

Not included in tour cost: airport departure taxes, alcohol, tips, etc). Mosquito nets, sleeping bags, tents and jungle hammocks are included in the tour price.
Depending on river conditions it may not be possible to visit all the locations listed here. The plan is however always to ascend the Negro River to Cucui Rock on the border with Venezuela and visit local communities along the way.
