COSTA RICA VERDE ESCORTED ROUNDTRIP
8 days / 7 nights

Get on the bus, make yourself comfortable and get ready to experience the most interesting attractions and highlights of Costa Rica. The Costa Rica Verde, especially designed to be a first introduction to the country’s attractions and life style, allows you to get a general sample of this small land, its natural heritage and its people. This program runs on a fixed departure basis.

Day 1 - Arrival in San José. Meet and greet at the airport and transfer to the hotel Villa Tournon.

Day 2 - (B) Departure towards the country’s northern region visiting Poás Volcano National Park on the way. Póas, located about 2 hrs away from San José, is an active volcano featuring one of the largest craters in the world with a diameter of 1.5 Km. Short hike through the nearby evergreen tropical cloud forest and visit Botos Lagoon. After the visit, head to La Fortuna, the closest town to Arenal Volcano. Later in the afternoon, visit Tabacón Hot Springs, which offers five natural hot swimming pools, Jacuzzis and river ponds surrounded by lush gardens, all with magnificent view of Arenal Volcano. The Arenal has been in constant activity for 30 years; with luck it is possible to observe the lava flows and hear the volcano’s roar. Overnight at Lomas del Volcán.

Lomas del Volcán is a cozy hotel situated on a mountainside within the property of a 150 hectares farm. It is surrounded by tropical forest with a great variety of plants and animals. The hotel sits at the foot of the Arenal Volcano, just 4 km from La Fortuna, and 3-4 hours from San Jose. A middle option place, ideal for clients looking for a comfortable, pleasant hotel. Good choice for nature lovers or bird watchers.

It offers 46 spacious, rustic cabin-like rooms. Each cabin includes two terraces, with spectacular views of the Arenal Volcano, two queen size beds, private bathroom w/ hot water, A/C, coffeemaker, telephone, free safety box, and a refrigerator. Facilities and services include a bar, restaurant, a swimming pool, Jacuzzi, room service until 9pm, parking, and wireless Internet connection at the lobby and the hotel’s restaurant.

Some of the activities this area has to offer include: Arenal Volcano Hiking Trip, Caño Negro Wildlife Refuge, Safari Float Adventure, Canopy Tour, Rio Celeste Hiking Exploration, White Water Rafting, Horseback Ride to the La Fortuna River Waterfall and Trip to Danaus Butterfly Farm and Gardens.

Day 3 - (B, L) Boat Excursion to Caño Negro Wildlife Refuge, located about 2hrs. Away from La Fortuna. The centrepiece of the refuge is the lake, which covers 1,977 acres and receives up to 10 ft of water during the rainy season. The refuge hosts both resident and migrating birds, as well as a number of endangered mammal and reptile species. Lunch at a typical restaurant. In the afternoon return to La Fortuna. Overnight at Lomas del Volcán

Day 4 - (B) Departure towards Monteverde visiting Arenal Volcano National Park on the way, where we will take a short hike in the forest on the skirts of the Arenal Volcano. Afternoon at leisure in Monteverde Cloud Forest Lodge. This lodge features a total of 20 rooms; all have one double and one single bed, as well as private bathroom with hot water. The rooms are surrounded by lush vegetation. Telephone service is available at the reception desk, and there is a TV in the lounge (the rooms do not have TVs since the aim is to provide a peaceful, relaxed atmosphere in which nature can be fully appreciated.) Other facilities include bar and restaurant service, horseback riding tours, the Canopy Tour (sliding along wires that hang from one treetop to another), as well as the lodge's 5 Km/3.10 mile private trails, and 70 acres of primary and secondary forests. The restaurant has a good view of the Gulf of Nicoya. Montaña Monteverde might also be used.

Ideal for birdwatchers and nature lovers that are active, enjoy the wilderness, and like to stay at rustic mountain lodges. This is a high altitude region (1400 meters/4592 feet above sea level), and temperatures can drop to 12º C. Therefore, we recommend that you bring a jacket, and a raincoat (after all, it is the rainforest!). Four wheel drive vehicles are highly recommended for those finding their own way there.

Day 5 - (B) Guided walk in the Monteverde Cloud Forest Reserve. This private reserve host one of the richest ecological systems and one of the most important virgin cloud forests in the country. The nearby community was founded in the early 1950s by North American Quakers – dairy farmers who established cattle ranches that can be seen along the road in Monteverde. Overnight at Cloud Forest Lodge or Montaña Monteverde.

Day 6 - (B) Departure after breakfast to the Punta Leona Hotel, located 25 minutes away from Jacó Beach, and about 3 hrs away from Monteverde. By the afternoon we will have a tour to the Sky Way in the private reserve belonging to the Villa Lapas Hotel. This tour combines hanging bridges with walks along nature trails running through tropical forest typical of the area. Overnight at Punta Leona Hotel. The hotel Punta Leona is offers 750 acres of lush tropical rainforest, pristine white sand and gold sand beaches and the deep blue waters of the Pacific surround it. The hotel offers a total of 108 rooms of which 16 are fully equipped Apartments, 15 are Deluxe Apartments with pool, and 77 are Standard Rooms. All rooms feature two double beds, private bathroom, hot water, air-conditioning, color cable TV, telephone, mini-fridge, safety security box and views to the forest. The rooms are located a 5-10 minutes walk or at 2-minute internal shuttle bus ride from the beach.

Furthermore the hotel has a buffet style restaurant featuring both International and Continental dishes, one snack bar located next to the beach, a grill serving savory traditional Costa Rican cuisine, a snack bar located in the swimming pool area, a bar, 4 swimming pools in the hotel complex, three air-conditioned conference rooms with all the necessary audio-visual equipment, a mini supermarket and souvenir shop and a discotheque. Some of the activities offered are water aerobics, dancing lessons to the Latin rhythms of Salsa and Merengue music, guided nature and birdwatching walks, volleyball and tennis courts, ping pong tables, mini golf and water sports such as sailing, waterski, surf, jetski and diving.

Recommended for families with children due to the variety of activities available during the day. Tropical rainforest and beach resort combining environmental conservation and tourism. The beach is safe, calm and great for swimming.
Monterrey del Mar Beach Hotel might also be used.

Day 7 - (B) Leave after breakfast for the visit to Carara National Park, located about 5 minutes drive from the
hotel. Carara is a low mountainous area spread over 4,700 Ha of unique rainforest, forming a transition between the dry northern zone and the lush rainforests of the south. It is relatively easy to observe wildlife at the reserve, such as macaws, parrots and toucans, iguanas, monkeys and sloths. We will also have time to visit the nearby beach of Jacó, where we will spend the rest of the afternoon. Return to the hotel afterwards / Punta Leona Hotel or Monterrey del Mar Beach Hotel
