Curitiba Area Touring

The capital of the State of Paraná is a prosperous, ecologically conscious and highly successful example of urban planning and a socioeconomic triumph among the larger Brazilian Cities.

The north coastal region of the state of Paraná (Morretes, Antonina, Paranaguá - Ilha do Mel and Guaraqueçaba), consists basically of bays and coves surrounded by isolated hills and massive amounts of the Sea Mountains, as well as extensive plains. The region represents one of the most important natural ecosystems along the Brazilian coast, being recognized as Biosphere Reserve by the United Nations. In this area, federal and state units of conservation have been created, aiming at preservation and the sustainable use of natural resources of the region. The Natural Environment Protection Area of Guaraqueçaba includes 313,000 hectares of Atlantic Forest and associated ecosystems. On the federal APA, the state of Paraná also decreed an APA that, together with other units of conservation of indirect use, forms a mosaic completed by the Ecological Station of Guaraqueçaba and the National Park of Superagui.

Particular reserves of Natural Patrimony (RPPN's) add efforts for the conservation of the region. One of them is the Natural Reserve of Salto Morato, kept by the Foundation Boticário, a large industry from the state of Parana, and the other one is Ecological Reserve of the Sebuí, kept by two owners, The name of the reserve reports to the main purpose for which it was established: to preserve a significant remainder of the Atlantic Forest, aiming for its ecological study.

Sebui Lodge Program

From mountains covered by dense forests, down to wetlands, coastal islands with isolated villages, mountains and dunes. This journey will take you to the Lagamar estuary, a rich natural environment of great scenic beauty, part of the World Biosphere Reserve of the Atlantic Rainforest. Lagamar is in the largest continous extension of remaining Brazilian Atlantic Forest. It is a 200km (124mi.) long coastal strip from the Brazilian state of São Paulo to Paraná. The Atlantic Rainforest Biosphere Reserve is a World Heritage Site and attracts many tourists. The area is described as one of the most important protecting regions in the planet.

In 1999 Lagamar was awarded the title of The World´s Best Ecotourism Destination, by
Condé Nast Traveler.
Lagamar is a sparkling myriad of lagoons fomed by numerous
adjoining rivers which meet with the sea, where serenity and thrills are the dominatnt ways of life. The area in which four islands takes an important role is limited in the south by the beautiful sea bay of Baia de Paranaguá and in the north by a river delta system which is Ilha das Peças, Ilha do Superagui, Ilha do Cardoso and Ilha Comprida. Between these islands, many small ones are found. Protected within Lagamar are numerous pockets of rainforest, mangroves and coastal lowlands. A gigantic tangle of bromelias, orchids, ferns and palms of the rarest types are gathered with completely unesplored plant species. The area also serves as a breeding ground for marine species. The rich jewel-tones of the environment hypnotizes everyone with their vibrant glow as the dolphins perform gracefully.
