Easy Chachapoyas Tours

Please note: We have designed these tours with arrival and departure by public overnight buses, since there are currently no flights to Chachapoyas. We can also quote with private transfers from and to Chiclayo

"It went very well. Alicia was a very knowledgeable and personable guide, and Wilder was an excellent driver. We enjoyed their company. And all
went according to schedule, except that John and I cancelled the hike to La Petaca and Diablo Huasi on the last day due to fatigue. The a
ccomodations were good, particularly at Gocta Lodge and at the Leimebamba Museum. The latter was actually excellent and it was an
unexpected surprise to have a room within the museum complex. Thanks for your help with the reservations." David

TOUR TO GOCTA WATERFALL AND KUELAP
This tour starts in Tarapoto and ends in Chiclayo 3d/2n All year

On March 22, 2006 German explorer Stefan Ziemendorff reports he has found the third highest waterfall in the world located in the isolated northern jungle near Chachapoyas. In a two hours trek you can see a pristine cloud forest jungle. Passion fruit vines in the canopy have year around fruit that sustains a colony of monkeys and varieties of birds feeding on this fruit. You can see a variety of medical plants, hummingbirds, toucans, monkeys, and butterflies. The height of 771 meters is thought to be relatively accurate, though Ziemendorff suspects the true figure could be within 13 meters in either direction. The falls has a regular to high volume of flow becoming an immensely powerful waterfall during the rainy season. However unlike other world class waterfalls, it doesn’t dry up in the dry season.

Day 1 Tarapoto-Cocachimba
Public bus transfer from Tarapoto to Pedro Ruiz bus station (approx. 6 hours), private transfer to the town of Cocachimba at 1,736 mts. over sea level approximately. Transfer to Cocachimba town. We will spend the night in Gocta Lodge with relaxing views of Gocta waterfall.

The fortress of Kuelap was re-discovery in 1843 by Juan Crisostomo Nieto, and is precariously perched on a mountain ridge (about 3000m) overlooking the Utcubamba Valley. Kuelap has over four hundred buildings inside 3 levels of walls, it is roughly 20m hight, 600 meters in length and 110 meters in width and is known as the largest stone structure in the Americas. Orchids and bromeliads cover the walls and trees inside this fortress. Inside there are remains of many small round houses, some of them with a zigzag or diamond pattern in their terraces. Archaeological evidence shows that the structure was started before 800 AD. Night in Choctamal MS Lodge with excellent panoramic views of fortress Kuelap and variety of hummingbirds that visit the lodge. (B, L, D)

Day 4 Choctamal-Revash-Leymebamba
On the way to Leymebamba we will see the Revash Ruins. The mausoleums resemble small housing and conglomerates of the same ones, forming miniature "villages". For this circumstance and for their emplacement in stacks, Revash's funeral houses show a curious similarity with the cliff-houses of Colorado. Night in Leymebamba, Casa Mallqui. (B, BL, D)
