Cruising the Central Fiords on the Skorpios II


The centuries old Glacier San Rafael, 400 nautical miles to the south of Puerto Montt, was discovered four centuries ago. Today it is one of the main attractions of the country and the focus of a 6 day dream cruise.The front part of the Glacier has a width of 2 kilometers and its towers have an height of 70 meters and they sink more than 230 meters under sea level. The colors go from dark blue, blue, light blue, greens, white and finally greys. They are unique in the world.

The Fjord of Quitralco, is an old Glacier surrounded by mountains and and exhuberant vegetation and is unique in its kind. Here are found the Thermal Baths and these are exclusive for the passengers of Skorpios. Here you have the possibility of taking baths, trips by boat, walks in the middle of the untouched forest and fishing. The area was declared in November 1996 a Sanctuary of Nature by the Monument Park association of Chile.

The Skorpios navigation track, includes stops at fisherman villages Puerto Aguirre and Queilen. Castro, the capital of Chiloe is another stop where tourists may buy wood crafts and wool at the artesans fair. The fauna and flora at these latitudes is unique - sea lions, seagulls, ducks, quetros, chilcos and small dolphins called toninas. They will fascinate those who love and respect this natural environment.

Saturday 11:00 hrs - Puerto Montt. Take off from Skorpios terminal. Sailing through the Llanquihue Archipielago. Cruising past the town of Calbuco. Gulf of Ancud, Chiloé archipelago crossing the Gulf of Corcovado at midnight.

Sunday 08:00 hrs - Sailing along the Moraleda and Ferronave Channels. Arrive at Puerto Aguirre at 11:00 hrs. The stop over in this fishing village lasts one hour and a half. 12:30 hrs,sailing through the Ferronave, Pilcomayo and Costa Channels. casting anchor at approximately 21:30 hrs. in Caleta Hualas or Punta Leopardos, 20 miles from the San Rafael Glacier.

Monday 07:30 hrs - Crossing San Rafael Glacier Bay and the Témpanos Channel. 09:00 hrs, Enter the lagoon and cast anchor 2 Kms. from the Glacier. Motorboat trips between Multicoloured ice forms if weather permits it 17:00 Hrs Quitralco Fjord.

Tuesday 08:00 hrs - Brought along side Quitralco Quay. After breakfast, passengers may take a thermal bath at 36,32 and 30 degrees C, in indoor or open air pools. If weather permits, motorboat trips will be made up the fjord. 19:00 hrs. Set sail in the direction of Chiloé. Sailing through the Moraleda and Pérez Norte Channels.

Wednesday 08:00 hrs - Sailing through the Leucayec channel within partial sight of Melinca Island located in the Chonos archipelago, this island was a pirate's hide out in bygone times. Across the Gulf of Corcovado to continue sailing and hugging the eastern side of Chiloé`s archipelago.If weather permits a land fall and an optional visit will be made at Quellón and sailing along the Yal channel and Castro Estuary arriving at this beautiful city at 21:00 hrs

Thursday 08:00 hrs - Castro. After breakfast one may visit the craft fair, museum, church and explore. Optional excursion to the town of Chonchi. 18 Km away. 12:45 hrs. Return to the ship. 13:00 hrs. sail across the Castro Estuary, through the Channels of Lemuy, Dalcahue, Quicaví and Calbuco. 21:00 hrs. Farewell dinner 23:00 hrs. Arrival at Puerto Montt.

Friday 07:00 hrs - Breakfast. End of Cruise. Transfer to airport
