Poison Dart Frog Management Conservation Program

Dr. Rainer Schulte, world's authority on Dendrobatids, described three new species of Dendrobates in the Tamshiyacu-Tahuayo in 1999. He describes the species assemblage in the Tamshiyacu-Tahuayo as "the most strange and outstanding to be found in the Amazon." Dr. Schulte has trained the staff to set up and operate a Dendrobates management and conservation program, similar to what he has set up in the forests outside of Tarapoto. Breeding of the frogs has been started and visitors are able to view these elusive amphibians in terrariums.
