This exhilarating multi-sport itinerary takes you off the
beaten path to explore Guatemala like few can! The tour begins by climbing
an active volcano, then takes you deep into the remote & traditional
Mayan highlands where you will bike through spectacular volcanic scenery
on local trade routes and see remote, colorful local markets. Stay in
a local home stay to learn more about the typical way of life here and
visit the Maya God Maximon after kayaking on the high altitude lake of
Lake Atitlan with her majestic volcanoes and then climb temples in the
jungle at the world famous site of Tikal.
Day 1: Sat: Arrival and transfer to Antigua
We will meet guests off their flight and transfer them to the beautiful
city of Antigua. Antigua 1N

Day 2: Sun: Chichi market visit, bike to Toto (B,L)
Visit the local crafts and goods market of Chichicastenango, wander up
to the sacred mountain of Pascual Abaj, where often shamon rituals can
be witnessed. After lunch enjoy biking to Totonicapan. A short transfer
brings us to Quetzaltenango, where we spend the night

Day
3: Mon: Hike and Bike Cerro Quemado, Zunil market visit (B,L,)
Hike and bike around the dormant volcano of Cerro Quemado with views to
several volcanoes and mountanranges
Visit the impressive vegetable market of Zunil, where often there are
no tourists to be seen. After lunch guests will be transferred to the
shores of Lake Atitlan. Overnight at Panajachel

Day 4: Tues: Cerro de Oro and Santiago Village (B,L):
This morning guests will kayak on what many have called, "the most
beautiful lake in the world", Lake Atitlan. Guests pass by local
fishermen, indigenous Maya women doing their washing and men working in
the fields wearing their famous embroidered Santiago shorts as well as
enjoying views of the three lake volcanoes. Once at Cerro de Oro village
guests will hike this impressive hill and on the top of this sacred hill.
Sometimes guests can witness Mayan rituals in process which is an amazing
and authentic glimpse of local Mayan life in this area. Enjoy the great
views of the whole lake and the surrounding volcanoes from the top of
this hill. When guests are ready they will be transferred back to our
lodge on local pick up trucks. After lunch guests will visit the town
of Santiago, this lively Tzutuhil Maya town with its market and its strange
Maya God, " Maximon". Locals revere and perform rituals in front
of Maximon to bring good luck - or bad!

5: Wed: Zip line and Hike, Ixmiche Ruins and transfer to Antigua (B)
This morning enjoy a hike in the san Buenaventura reserve combined with
an emotional zip line adventure.
En route to Antigua, visit the Mayan temple site of Ixmiche (corn tree)
where also the first Spanish city has been established. Overnight in Antigua

Day 6: Thurs: Pacaya Volcano Hike( (B,L)
Guests will have breakfast with the tour leader before they will be transferred
to Pacaya National Park where we will begin our hiking ascent of this
famous, active volcano! The hike takes around 2.5 hours and at the top
you can see down into the crater to the lava as well as experience the
energy of an active volcano. On the return to Antigua, you can enjoy a
fun guided tour through the colonial city. Dinner in one of the many local
restaurants.

Day 7: Fri Sustainable Coffee tour, Antigua walking
tour (B)
As Green as it Gets (GAIG) is a charity working to support small independent
coffee producers and promoting environmentally responsible agriculture
in Guatemala. This tour takes guests to visit some of the families supported
by this organization where they can work side-by-side with small coffee
farmers in their daily coffee processing, pick, pulp, ferment, wash, dry,
trilla, sort, and grade the coffee (depending on the season), roast coffee
over an open fire and grind by hand on a grindstone before sampling their
handiwork. In the afternoon enjoy a guided walking tour in Antigua.
