Huchuy Qosqo - Lamay Trek

2days/1camp with full board

CRISS-CROSSED BY THOUSANDS OF TRAILS, THE MOUNTAINS OF CUSCO OFFER ENDLESS POSSIBILITIES FOR LONG OR SHORT TREKS. THIS IS A TWO-DAY HIKE. IT TAKES YOU THROUGH BEAUTIFUL SCENERY IN THE MOUNTAINS NORTH OF CUSCO AND THROUGH SELDOM-VISITED COMMUNITIES TO THE LITTLE-KNOW RUINS OF HUCHUY-QOSQO, PERCHED ABOVE THE SACRED VALLEY.

Day 1 to Pumamarca
We start in Cusco by car going to the ruins of Tambomachay (3700 meters). From here we follow the main road it curves sharply up hill to reach a pass of near 4200 meters
Follow it down into valley and through the small community at the bottom. As we descend along the trail you will see a beautifully green valley stretching away. The path we see on its right slope leads to Pisaj. Passing through the village and across a new bridge the trail takes us up over the second pass at around 4300 meters into high open country. On route we will see Lake Qoricocha (Golden Lake in Quechua) We continue along this clear trail. Arriving at the highest point of the trek, at 4350 meters. The trail descends until we reach the peaceful village of Pumamarca. Camp in the vicinity.

Day 2 Huchuy Qosqo - Lamay
Just below the village the valley narrows to form a ravine where an Inca staircase will lead us down to the magnificent citadel of Huchuy Qosqo. Huchuy Qosqo is perched above the Urubamba Valley, overlooking the little town of Lamay. It was an administrative center such us Pisaj, has fine buildings made with stone and there is one which is a unique example paved with stones perfectly fitted. In the hillsides there are granaries due it was also and important agricultural center. Continuing along this now magnificent path, with Pitusiray looming above us across the valley we will eventually pass an Inca stone and adobe gateway. This is was the entrance to the ruins of Huchuy Qosqo for people who climbed up from the Urubamba Valley.
To descend to the valley, a steep trail below the main ruins takes us to the village of Lamay in the valley.Return to Cusco or continue to Urubamba by car
