Lima - Cusco Suggested Packages

Basic 4 Day

Day 1. Arrival to Lima in the evening. After getting your luggage and going through customs, walk out the exit and look for a person holding a sign with your name on it. He will transfer you to your selected hotel, give you your vouchers and go over your pickup time for the next morning.

Day 2. Breakfast. Then you will be ransferred to the airport for your flight to Cusco. After getting your luggage, walk out the exit and look for a person holding a sign with your name on it. He will transfer you to your selected hotel and go over your itinerary for this area, including pickup times.. In the afternoon you will be taken to visit the Cathedral built from 1560 to 1654 at the site of the Viracocha Inca palace. It is the best example of the European art done by natives of Cusco, has the high altar plated with silver and contains masterpieces of woodcarvings and painting. See the Koricancha, which displays the best Inca stonework in Cusco. Explore the ancient Indian sanctuary of Sacsayhuaman with magnificent Inca walls of massive rocks weighing up to 130 tons fitted together with absolute perfection. The amphitheatre of Qenqo, the fortress of Pukapukara and the spring shrine of Tambomachay where water still flows by a hidden channel out of the masonry wall are also visited.

Day 3. Breakfast, then you will be transferred to the train station, where you will get on the train and meet your guide. Upon arrival at Aguas Calientes, you will transfer to a bus that will take you up to the top of the mountain. Machu Picchu, the lost city, is a complete city, set on a high mountain with terraced slopes falling away to the Urubamba River. For centuries it was buried in jungle, until Hiram Bingham stumbled upon it in 1911. Your professional tour guide will explain about the history of the site and lead you through staircases, terraces, temples, palaces, towers, and fountains. Lunch, then free time to explore on your own before you take the bus back down to the village, where you will get on the train back to Cusco. You will be met and transferred back to your hotel.

Day 4. Breakfast, then free morning till you are transferred to the airport for your flight to Lima or elsewhere.subtract $60 per person if you prefer to use backapcker train (with no reserved seats and possible standing room only during high season)

The Pisac Market is a colorful morning market where you can purchase Peruvian weavings, jewelry, and pottery, and see its traditional Indian market where goods are traded. Visits to Pisac are on Sundays and Thursdays. After lunch we visit Ollantaytambo, the Inca town on which the present day town is based is clearly seen as a fine example of the traditional Inca City planning of Canchas or blocks, which are almost entirely intact and still occupied. The tour includes visits the village, terraces, temples, irrigation systems, granaries, the fortress and the temple of the Sun built by Pachacuty Inca, using Colla Indians from Lake Titicaca.

Day 4. Cuzco - Km. 104 - Chachabamba - Wiñay Wayna - Machu Picchu
Travel by train along the Urubamba River in the Sacred Valley of the Incas. As the Valley becomes a canyon the cloud forest begins to appear, the vegetation changing as we reach the Machu Picchu Sanctuary. We cross a hanging bridge at Km. 104 to the Chachabamba site, and after a brief visit begin a four-hour ascent to the ruins of Wiñay Wayna an important ritual site The Inca Trail cuts across the ridge above Machu Picchu, finally reaching the Door of the Sun (INTIPUNKU) where the trail begins to winds downhill. The classic view over the lost citadel which is right above the Urubamba river will be a unique experience, it is the most exquisite way to see Machu Picchu for the first time. Overnight at a hostel in Aguas Calientes. Dinner not included.

Day 5. Machu Picchu - Cuzco
After an early breakfast we visit the citadel and surrounding complexes. Here you can tour this world-renowned site before returning to Cuzco - a chance to get somer great pictures without other tourists in them. Optional hike up to the top of Wayna Picchu, the mountain overlooking the ruins, from which you have a spectacular view of both Machu Pichu and the Urubamba River gorge below. Lunch included. Return by train to Cuzco (or the Sacred Valley).

Day 6. Breakfast, then free morning till you are transferred to the airport for your flight to Lima or elsewhere.
