Authentic Pantanal Tour

The Remote Pantanal is a tour through traditional cattle ranches that became lodges for receiving eco-travelers who want to feel that the traditional way-of-life is responsible for the conservation of Pantanal to these days. The comfort of the massive tourism is greatly substituted by the genuine treatment that the locals give, sharing their knowledge and admiration for this ecological sanctuary. Using two different lodges, according to the season, is certified the harmony among the man and nature, in a unique interaction. In the climax of the dry season, with a longer stay, we offer the accommodation in both remote lodges - one accessed by the Transpantaneira, and the other lodge accessed via off-the-beaten tracks, to feel how the isolation influenced the culture of the locals and to be able to observe some rare animals.
These can only be done May-November

4 days / 3 nights

Day 1 - Reception at the Cuiabá airport and immediate transfer to the traditional town of Poconé, then, on the Transpantaneira or on off-the-beaten-tracks** plus a private access in direction West - the deepest land slope in the wetlands. Arrival at the end of the afternoon, together with a group of Hyacinth Macaws, that roost on the tress in the surrounding of the ranch-hotels. After dinner is a night safari, in an opportunity to see night habit animals such as foxes, ocelots, owls and, with luck, even a jaguar, among millions of caiman eyes'.

Day 2 - Sunrise walk to hear the sounds of nature, in a hike through one of the mound-hills where there is a large concentration of mammals, among nests of Jabiru stork and Hyacinthine Macaws. Departure by horse through fields and forests to visit remote areas, such as lakes where there are many birds colonies and rare animals.

Day 3 - Departure to a distant river, where is done a silent non motor boat trip, to better hear and see all the richness of the aquatic environment of Pantanal. Another hike through other direction, where rare animals, such as Tapir and Anteaters can be seen.

Day 4 - Departure to Cuiabá with drop-off at the airport at the convenient time.

It was great! Our guide was really knowledgable and really fun. We loved the Caranda Lodge also. Everything went well. Cheryl Hornbaker

We had a marvelous trip in spite of the weather. It did not become cold in pantanal until Monday night so we were able to have a good view of the birds etc before things quieted down with lower temp. Our enthusiastic guide was the key to our trip success. Again thanks for telling me about Caranda lodge and please tell how special the guide was for us. His excitement for the pantanal remains our best memory. Martin Elliott

Caranda Lodge

"I think it is fair to say that everyone in our group who stayed at Caranda Lodge thoroughly enjoyed the visit, activities and experiences there. The staff and owners of the lodge were very friendly and clearly attempted to make our stay as pleasant as possible. I personally had interesting chats with the owners on their experiences in living in this remote location. The accomodation was just fine for us. The main guide, was outstanding. We found him to be very knowledgeable in regard to a broad range of birds, other animal life, insects and plants, and was well informed on the geology, ecology and history of the Pantanal. We also found him to be well-organized, personable, down to earth, and practical. He communicated very well in English and Portuguese. He gave us a power point presentation that was well illustrated and based largely on his own observations and experiences in the Pantanal. He has clearly done a lot of homework. In short, he is a top notch guide for the Pantanal, and in my opinion, given appropriate oportunities, could effectively and successfully run his own tours and tour company. We were extremely pleased with the number and spectrum of birds and animal species that we were able to see during day and night outings. Two of us (birders) each identified around 100 bird species "for sure" during the first 3 days. The continual presence and ambiance of wildlife and nature as a whole simply made the visit awesome. Simple things such as daily visits of the jacares (caymans)to the cowboy's house added to our pleasure." John Sutton
