Highlights of Venezuela

The 8 day roundtrip offers a delightful combination of the most beautiful places in Venezuela. You visit the metropolis Caracas, where your journey starts. You continue to the Andes region, which includes a ride with the highest cable car of the world. In Maracaibo, the most important city of oil production in the country, you will visit the typical Guajiro Indians. The final highlight of this tour is Canaima, which includes a flight over the world highest waterfall, the Angel Falls.

*Note: The cable car only operates from Wednesday to Sunday

Day 1 - Arrival in Caracas. You will be welcomed by the guide at the airport. The airport is located on the coast, 23 km away from the city. One-hour transfer to the Hotel Las Americas

Day 2 - In the morning, you will go on a sightseeing tour of Caracas to visit the colonial city center, Simon Bolívar´s birthplace and the cathedral. In the afternoon, flight to Mérida. Mérida is the capital and university city of Mérida State. It lies on a plateau (1.645 m) at the foot of Pico Bolívar (5.007 m), the highest mountain of Venezuela, bordered by the Sierra Nevada National Park. Transfer to the Hotel Belensate.(B)

Day 3 - In the morning, the famous cable car brings you to the Pico Espejo station at an altitude of more than 4.700 mts. in just one hour. In the afternoon, during the city tour, you will visit the colorful market halls of Mercado Principal to observe the activities and maybe even buy some typical handicraft. Return to the Hotel Belensate. (B,L)

Day 4 - After breakfast, you will drive for about 1,5 hours through the Andean villages of Tabay, Mucuruba and Mucuchies to the Mucubaji lagoon to continue on foot to Laguna Negra. It is a pleasant walking-tour on a small path which winds through the green countryside offering an occasional glance at the valley of Sto. Domingo. Very soon you reach Laguna Negra, the color of its water changes depending on weather or season from dark blue to milky dark green. Always different! Surrounded by the mountains and in peaceful silence there will be time to relax. Afterwards, you will walk back to the starting-point. For lunch, you can warm yourself up with a hot cup of cocoa at a small restaurant and fresh trout, a specialty of the Andes. You continue your journey to the highest mountain pass of Venezuela, the Pico El Aguila and take a side trip to the condor breeding station. During the last years, strong efforts have been made in order to recover the almost extinct condor in this region. With a little luck, you might see one of them circling in the sky as well as some eagles. In the afternoon, you will return to Mérida and still have plenty of time to stop at the many handicraft stalls which border the road. Hand-woven carpets and robust, simple ceramics are offered here. Hotel Belensate. (B,L)

Day 5 - After breakfast, transfer to the airport and flight to Maracaibo, the most important city in the western Venezuela. In the afternoon, you will have time to visit the picturesque houses and the cathedral downtown. Overnight in the Hotel Maracaibo Cumberland.(B)

Day 6 - In the morning, you will visit the Sinamaica Lagoon, where the Guajiro Indians live to observe their typical constructions and way of life. Lunch in a restaurant.
