Pre-Colombian Nicaragua - An archaeologist led tour
Around 800 AD Nicaragua was considered the Promised Land by the Chorotega culture in central Mexico. Like the biblical exodus of the Jews from Egypt, oppressed people came to Nicaragua fleeing pre-Aztec Mesoamerican civilizations. For centuries Nicaragua was at the crossroads of indigenous migrations from both north and south. These migrations crossed the narrow (only 12 miles wide a one point) Nicaragua isthmus between Lake Nicaragua and the Pacific Ocean, the only land bridge connecting the two great continents of the Americas. With the help of Nicaragua’s finest archaeologist and a translator, this tour examines these cultures and the clues, crafts and works of art they left behind.
