Are you planning to travel to South America and are looking for an agent to help you with your plans? If so, you might consider some things that were revealed in a recent survey of travel agents:
- almost 66% of agents said that they sell mostly cruises and all-inclusive resorts
- almost 79% said that the Caribbean and Europe were their best selling destinations
- only 1.54% said that South America was their best selling destination
- only 5.14% said they belong to the Adventure Travel Trade Association and only 18.51% said they specialize in adventure travel
So that should tell you that a lot of local agents are not going to be very experienced about travel to South America and probably won't have first hand knowledge about it. I know that when I went to my local agent about 30 years ago and asked about going to Ecuador, she said she didn't know anything about it and when she called around to their other offices, none of the other agents knew anything about it. But if I wanted to go to Cancun, Vegas, Jamaica or Disney World........

We've worked with various local operators in each country so we know who is reliable and does a good job. Some may be cheaper, but they don't offer the same level of service - you don't want to worry if you will be safe or if you are going to get what you paid for.
