11 Day Dry Season TourThis tour is designed for wildlife lovers using some of the best spots in Colombia to observe fauna & flora. The country is known for being the 2nd most biodiverse country in the world, and the first if we measure it per square kms. This is not very demanding physically, but has some hikes, and you need to be prepared for the altitude in Chingaza and for different 4x4 transportations. Here you can expect to see great wildlife, some of it endemic. The destinations chosen are normally away from mass tourism and you can get a deeper contact with rural communities, visit different ecosystems starting in the high Andes and ending in the eastern flatlands, also helping the wildlife and ecosystems preservation efforts in the regions to visit
DAY 1 - WELCOME IN BOGOTÁ
On this first day, a person from our team will be waiting for you at your arrival time at El Dorado Airport in Bogotá and will take you to the hotel. Afterwards, you will have the rest of the day free, having time to recover from the flight, enjoy the hotel facilities or explore the city on your own. MEALS: (-/-/-) HOTEL: HOTEL DE LA OPERA DAY 2 - BOGOTA FREE DAY OF ACCLIMATIZATION On this day, you will have a free day in Bogotá in order to recover from your international flight and acclimatize to the weather of the Andean region. Your hotel is located the historical center of the city and the main touristic attractions, where you can explore the city on your own, visit the local museums, or hire a tour with us, which can be a graffiti, a fruit or a city-tour, a visit to Monserrate church, among other options. MEALS: (B/-/-) HOTEL: HOTEL DE LA OPERA DAY 3 – CHINGAZA NATIONAL PARK (DAY 1) After breakfast you will be taken to a hummingbird observatory located in the town of La Calera, where you can easily observe more than 14 different species and it is on the route to Chingaza National Park. Later on, you will continue the road towards the cabins inside this national park located 60 kms away from Bogota where you will start to see the great landscapes of the place by car and will start to look for wildlife on the road. MEALS: (B/L/D) ACCOMMODATION: GLAMPINGS OR ROOMS IN CABINS INSIDE CHINGAZA NATIONAL PARK DAYS 4-5 - CHINGAZA NATIONAL PARK - (DAYS 2 and 3 in park) Today we can optionally wake up early to observe birds of the national park. After breakfast, we will explore the spectacular landscapes of Chingaza and its lagoons, looking for the spectacled bear by car. We can optionally do some hikes up to 10 kms on some trails of the Paramo ecosystem learning about the endemic plants, and animals of the protected area the whole day. At the end of the day, we will get back to the cabin to have dinner and rest. MEALS: (B/L/D) ACCOMMODATION: GLAMPINGS OR ROOMS IN CABINS INSIDE CHINGAZA NATIONAL PARK DAY 6 - HATO LA AURORA (DAY 1 at lodge) On this day, you will fly to the city of Yopal (08:20-09:20), where you will be received at the airport and then will have a 3-hours transfer to Hato La Aurora in 4x4 cars passing by marvelous landscapes and observing different birds along the way. You will have lunch at this place, which is known for its wildlife conservation efforts and its endemic species. You will have an afternoon tour in canoes to watch aquatic fauna in the rivers of the reserve. MEALS: (B/L/D) HOTEL: JUAN SOLITO ECOLODGE DAY 7 - HATO LA AURORA (DAY 2) On this day, we can start the journey at 5:00 AM to have better chances to see birds and wildlife, or optionally, we can start after breakfast. You will have a full-day safari in 4x4 cars looking for the reserve's big 5: capybaras, anacondas, anteaters, alligators and with great luck the jaguar. The guides will advise you on the best places to observe wildlife without disturbing them. Later you will return to the lodge and will have a cultural activity. MEALS: (B/L/D) HOTEL: JUAN SOLITO ECOLODGE DAY 8 - HATO LA AURORA (DAY 3) After breakfast, by 8:00 AM you will have a second full-day safari in 4x4 cars looking for the reserve's big 5: capybaras, anacondas, anteaters, alligators and with great luck the jaguar. The guides will advise you on the best places and strategy to observe wildlife without disturbing it, in this immense wildlife sanctuary by the same or different route depending on the success of the previous day's sightings and the guides' criteria. MEALS: (B/L/D) HOTEL: JUAN SOLITO ECOLODGE DAY 9 - HATO LA AURORA (DAY 4) On this day, we can start the journey at 5:00 AM to have better chances to see birds and wildlife, or optionally, we can start after breakfast. You will have a full-day safari in 4x4 cars looking for the reserve's big 5: capybaras, anacondas, anteaters, alligators and with great luck the jaguar. The guides will advise you on the best places to observe wildlife without disturbing them. Later you will return to the lodge and will have a cultural activity. MEALS: (B/L/D) HOTEL: JUAN SOLITO ECOLODGE DAY 10 - HATO LA AURORA-BOGOTA (DAY 5) After breakfast, you can either have a horse-back riding activity or a walk, where you can experience the local culture and see some fauna in the surroundings of the lodge. You will also learn about the conservation efforts at the lodge. After lunch, you will have a transfer in 4x4 towards Yopal, where you will take a flight to Bogota (19:00-20:00). At your arrival you will be taken to your hotel close to El Dorado airport. MEALS: (B/L/-) HOTEL: COURTYARD BY MARRIOT BOGOTA AIRPORT DAY 11 - DEPART Today, you will have breakfast included at the hotel. You will have a transfer included to take you to the international airport of Bogota to be 3 hours before your flight out the country or 2 hours before flight connections inside Colombia. Hato La Aurora is best visited during the Dry Season from December to the end of March, but seasonal variations can extend the dry conditions to begin in November and stretch through April.
