Tarapoto to Chachapoyas
|
We invite you to visit important archeological ruins and stunning natural attractions on this tour. Tarapoto, known as the "City of Palm Trees" is in an area that features dense tropical rainforests, orchids, ferns, and giant ceiba trees in the high jungle zone that transitions into the Amazon basin. There is a high diversity of colorful butterflies, poison dart frogs, and monkeys.
Cocachimba is in an area of thick, mossy cloud forests where trees are often shorter (dwarf forests) and are covered in bromeliads and lichens. It is a prime habitat for the Andean Cock-of-the-Rock (Peru's national bird). The Gocta waterfall there is one of the highest waterfalls in the world at 771 meters (2,530 ft) and is considered one of the most beautiful and the Karajia sarcophagi are truly unique. The Kuelap fortress is one of the most important and largest pre-Inca ruins in South America (called "The Machu Picchu of the North"). The outer walls were up to about 60 feet high, almost 2000 feet long and 360 feet wide and inside are the remains of over 400 circular dwellings. |
