3 days at La CeibaDay 1 - (09:30 – 13:30) – Welcoming by the local team at Leticia airport, depending on the arrival time, after that you will be taken to a rural area, where you will check-in to beautiful tree houses at Omagua reserve and will have lunch. Afterwards, you will visit a Huitoto indigenous community, doing a jungle trek and activities near the Takana river. At night you will have dinner at the “Maloka” (indigenous meeting house) and will share some moments with the elders of the community having a talk about their culture and cosmovision. After that you will get back to the ecolodge.
Day 2 - (07:00) – Breakfast & check-out, from Leticia you will do an 87 kms navigation in speed boats in a shared tour on the Amazon river stopping on the way at the Monkeys’ island and Macedonia, which is a Ticuna indigenous community, before arriving to Puerto Nariño, where you will have lunch and a city-tour. Afterwards you will visit the Tarapoto lakes, expecting to see the pink dolphins, the Victoria Regia and the Lotus flower before heading by boat towards Marasha Reserve, where you will spend the night, will have dinner and will do a night activity looking for caimans and nocturnal fauna. Day 3 - (05:00) – Optional bird-watching activity and breakfast, later on, you will do a jungle trek at Marasha looking for the fauna and flora of the Peruvian side of the Amazon river which is different to the fauna and flora on the Colombian side, as the first one is frequently flooded and its jungle in general has lower altitude. Here you will have lunch and different jungle activities such as kayak, fishing, swimming on the lakes or watching the Pirarucú. Then we will get back to Leticia where we will take you to the airport in order to take your flight out. Included:
4 days at La CeibaDay 1: WELCOME IN THE AMAZON
On this day we will receive you at Leticia airport. Once you meet our guides, you will be taken in a public boat by the Amazon River with these departure times: (07:00, 10:00 & 13:30) towards La Ceiba reserve. After lunch you will visit the Mocagua island by boat and will do a short hike there looking for the first wildlife sightings at this place that offers and special ecosystem in the middle of the Amazon River, before heading back to the cabins. Meals: (-/L/D) Hotel: La Ceiba Lodge Day 2: VISTA ALEGRE & MUSMUKI PROJECT On this day, you will depart to Vista Alegre (Perú), where you will visit the Musmuki project. You will have different activities at the reserve such as jungle hikes, visit of the lakes and will observe the nocturnal monkey, which gives the name to the reserve, or if it is the season of high waters, you will navigate in a canoe through the flooded forest observing birds, monkeys, sloths among other fauna. Later on, you will return to Mocagua. Meals: (B/L/D) Hotel: La Ceiba Lodge Day 3: PUERTO NARIÑO & TARAPOTO LAGOONS On this day, after breakfast you will have a navigation by the Amazon River towards Puerto Nariño. Then, you will have a walking tour in this, which is the first fully sustainable town nationwide with no vehicles and a calm environment. Later on, you will have lunch and will visit the Tarapoto Lakes, where you can swim and see dolphins. Later on, you will return to Mocagua while enjoying one of the common great sunsets over the Amazon jungle. Meals: (B/L/D) Hotel: La Ceiba Lodge Day 4: FREE MORNING AND FAREWELL Today, you can do bird watching activity at 5:30 am, or a kayak activity or can just relax in your last day here. You can return to Leticia on a public boat with these departure times: (07:00, 11:00 & 15:00). Day 4: MAIKUCHIGA & MEDICINAL PLANTS Today, after breakfast, you will visit the Maikuchiga foundation that is a wildlife rescue center. You will get to know their conservation efforts of different monkey species, sloths, reptiles, among others. In the afternoon, visit the garden (chagra) of a traditional indigenous herbalist that will guide and teach you about the use of medicinal plants. At night you can optionally do a kayak activity to look for alligators and night aquatic fauna. 4 days at Calanoa Day 1: WELCOME AT CALANOA LODGE
Today you will be received at the Leticia airport. Once you meet our guides, you will be taken in a public boat by the Amazon with these departure times: (07:00, 10:00 & 13:30) towards the Calanoa reserve. You will check-in and can have afternoon and night activities walking by the primary forest, guided by expert natives who will take you to discover the sounds of insects, frogs, owls, monkeys, plants that bloom at night and phosphorescent mushrooms. Meals: (-/L/D) Hotel: Calanoa Reserve Day 2: PUERTO NARIÑO & TARAPOTO LAGOONS Today, you will have a full day tour starting with a navigation by the Amazon River towards Puerto Nariño. Then, you will have a walking tour in this, which was named the first fully sustainable town nationwide with no vehicles and a calm environment. Later on, you will have lunch and will visit the Tarapoto Lakes, where you can swim and see dolphins. Later on, you will return to the hotel while enjoying one of the great sunsets over the Amazon jungle. In the afternoon, you can have a walk by the Calanoa Natural Reserve, where a canoe will pick you up to return by water to Calanoa. This tour is recommended for wildlife enthusiasts where with some luck you will observe birds, monkeys, possibly some mammals. At Calanoa there might be some large cabins that can increase the price, but that is just in case there is only availability of cabins for 5-7 people for a group of just 2 people for example. In this case, we always look for the appropriate cabins, but that just happens when there is limited availability. The additional price for English speaking translators is the same for LA CEIBA or CALANOA: 110 USD per day per group WHAT TO TAKE?
WEATHER CONDITIONS, CONNECTIVITY & BILINGUALISM It is necessary to be properly prepared for the weather conditions on the travel dates, which are detailed below and also you need to take into account that not everywhere you can find bilingual staff or people at the destination: Leticia: Temp. Min: 16ºC Max: 28ºC, very humid climate / (150 m.a.s.l.) You can have a bilingual guide but locals do not speak English. TO TAKE INTO ACCOUNT IN THE DESTINATION The ecosystems of Amazon area are special & it is important to follow the recommendations in order to avoid or diminish any negative impact on them, as well as being prepared for a pleasurable experience, according to that: - Disposable plastic bottles are not allowed in the area in order to avoid waste generation, so it is important to take your own rigid nondisposable bottle to refill water at the hotel. - Take caution against mosquitoes, such as long-sleeved clothes, repellent, or other cautions you or your doctor might consider. - You should consider the yellow-fever vaccination. Ideally you should have it at least 10 days before your visit to the destination. - Currently, there is no major outbreak of contagious disease or mosquito transmission in the areas to be visited. However, if there is an outbreak or important biological risk in the destinations to be visited, it will be informed in a timely manner prior to the trip. - We recommend the use of binoculars to wildlife watching and moisture-protected cameras.
