Patagonia Treks in Chile4-8 day treks in Torres del Paine and Cerro Castillo. Choice of camping, refugios, lodge, or Ecocamp in Torres del Paine. Some guided and some self-guided.
We share with you the latest recommendations made by the National Forestry Corporation of Chile (CONAF): Along with standard hiking gear, it is crucial for all visitors to carry micro-crampons, warm clothing, gloves, trekking poles, hats, a three-layer clothing system, and a personal first aid kit due to weather and ground conditions. |
The famous W Trek of Torres del Paine National Park was recently chosen by the Lonely Planet as one of the best low-altitude treks in the world (in fact, it’s also often cited as one of the best treks of any kind at all in the world!). The highest elevation on the W Trek is at the top of the French Valley at 1100 metres, which shouldn’t be a problem even for the most sensitive of sufferers.
Have you seen the spectacular, untouched landscapes of movies such as Into the Wild (Sean Penn, 2007) and, more recently, Wild (2014, Jean-Marc Vallée)? Do you imagine the emotion of the hero as he hikes along magnificent snow capped mountains and silent forests, as relentless as the sun in the desert (and the wind in Patagonia)? That emotion, that feeling of remoteness, is precious. It is precious mainly because places stunning enough to get you feel it are rare.Luckily, such places exist. In Southern Chile, at Torres del Paine National Park, you can feel the winds of freedom in your hair, sleep in a tent under the shadow of huge trees and hike along miles of pristine valleys, forests and ice fields.
Wilderness abounds in Torres del Paine. Whenever you experience the remoteness of its forests, you feel you are far from the civilization, and even though the national park has changed a lot in the last few years, it still overflows with unique and unspoilt places. Unlike many other places to where the natural scenery does not vary much from place to place, Torres del Paine is a place of change. Here, you can easily alternate between pampas, snow-capped mountains, huge glaciers and dense forests. The natural diversity of the park is unequaled.
Although there is so much that one could write about detailing the beauty of Torres Del Paine, this place is simply too much for words or pictures. There are no words that can adequately describe the feeling of reaching the base of the Towers or no photo that can quite capture it’s beauty. This is something one must travel to the end of the world to experience individually.
