Mitu Jungle Tours
It was said that when all the birds were black and white, on Cerro Urania, the God Kubay colored all the feathers of all kinds of birds and distributed the colors to each one, inspired by the beautiful colors of the sunsets that were seen from the tops of the tepuis with a view of the jungle and the great Vaupés river. This place is really surprising for all the options it has in the jungle, tepuis, rivers and the strength in its indigenous culture. Almost 90% of the population is indigenous and they maintain their culture, tradition and language, preserving a wonderful relationship with nature, the sacred hills and animals. It is an invaluable gift to visit these places hand in hand with professional indigenous guides who tell us their myths and stories originating from not only a real place but from a fantasy paradise!
DAY 1 Mituseño-Urania, Cubea ethnic group:
The adventure begins in Mitu with a transfer from the airport and a motorcycle ride to the indigenous reservation of Mituseña Urania. We will visit the maloka and the Kubay hill, where we can see birds and a great view of the jungle. We will make a beautiful ride in a Potrillo (silent rowing canoe) through the flooded forests while watching birds. The indigenous community of the reservation will present us with a small sample of their traditional dances. We will spend the night at the Hotel in the city of Mitu. You will have the night free, so you can explore the city as you feel. DAY 2 Guacamayas Hill: The tepuis or rock hills of Mitú are impressive and have a beautiful mysticism. We will visit Cerro de las Guacamayas. To reach its summit, we will walk along a comfortable path through the jungle for 2 hours. The view from the hill is spectacular, with the entire panorama of the immensity of the Vaupés Amazon. This hill is part of the Mitu Cachivera indigenous reserve. We will visit the white sand forests and climb one of the highest rocky outcrops of Mitú, where we will appreciate the orchids and the birds of the place. We will also be able to see the epidendrum major and epidendrum minor orchids, the most showy in the area. In Caño Sangre we will take a refreshing bath, a sensation that can only be experienced here in the jungle falls. In the afternoon, we will take a river tour of the giant Vaupés River. At night we will return to our hotel to rest. DAY 3 Cock of the Rock and the City of Mitú: The prize of the day will be sighting the Gallito de Roca (rupicola rupicola). We will visit the Cerro del Venado, where this magnificent bird lives, which can only be observed with a lot of silence and patience, among other things - only early risers can receive this gift. Don't forget to bring your binoculars or your long-lens camera, because seeing it up close is the best delight you can give yourself . There's nothing like seeing the phosphorescent flash of this bird when it flies in the Guyanese jungle forest... El Cerro del Venado too is a rocky outcrop of the Guyanese shield, that mix between tepui and jungle is one of the most impressive things that Vaupés offers us. The city of Mitú contains great potential in culture and contrasts. Like any capital city, it has countless stories and cultural traits, one of them is that 90% of its inhabitants are indigenous, so they give a special particularity to the energy of the place. This afternoon we will do a City Tour. We will visit the church, we will visit the murals and the beach along the Vaupés river boardwalk. Walking along this boardwalk is like traveling back in time to a place where time does not exist, it keeps a very placid freshness. At night we will return to our hotel to rest. DAY 4 Tepui Cerro Flecha - Ceima Cachivera: We will venture on a very easy and peaceful hike to the Cerro Flecha de Ceima Cachivera tepui that has a 360 degree view of the Amazon jungle. We will also enjoy a swim in the natural pools of the caño Ceima Cahivera. We will get to know the traditional Maloca of this community, characteristic for its cheerful colors.
