Cycling is such a popular way of discovering daily life in the riverside community of Nauta that they decided to offer guests the opportunity to unveil its charm, on Day 4 of the 7-night Peruvian Amazon river expedition. A classical Peruvian town in the north-eastern part of Loreto Province, Nauta is located on the north bank of the Marañón River, south of Iquitos and just a few miles from the confluence of the Río Ucayali. As guests hop on any of the ten bikes available to them, guides will show off traditional Peruvian houses and laidback river life on this two-hour tour, as well as provide you with plenty of opportunities to shop for unique Peruvian and Amazonia souvenirs while cycling along a major tributary of the Upper Amazon. Chef Pedro Miguel Schiaffino will be on the Aqua Nera for the June 3-7, 2025 and Sept. 30- Oct. 4, 2025 departures. The pioneer of rainforest-to-table cuisine, Chef Pedro Miguel Schiaffino creates wildly original menus that are steeped in Peruvian tradition when it comes to techniques and ingredients (some 70 percent used on board are sourced within Amazonia). Schiaffino’s razor focus is on locally sourced produce—from the rainforest straight to the dining table—and his talent for transforming unusual ingredients into authentic dishes is echoed in Aqua Nera’s culinary offerings. Menu highlights include grilled tiger catfish wrapped in bijao leaf, causa with shrimp cocktail, and paiche fish ceviche with sweet potatoes and fresh corn. Chef Schiaffino has always been trailblazer and deeply inspiring personality at the intersection of gastronomy and conservation, and his partnership with the Aqua Nera extends far beyond the kitchen. Meaningful collaborations include conservation projects, such as the protection and rehabilitation of native paiche fish population, as well as work with local river communities to foster sustainably sourced produce in the Amazon take center stage.
