Lodging in a lodge, double or single room with private bathroom. Meals we provide: Dinner. Day 2 Bus to El Chaltén – Camp Poincenot After breakfast we take our bus for the 220 km long drive to El Chaltén, a small and picturesque village at the foot of Fitz Roy & Cerro Torre massif. We make a stop half way to enjoy local pastries and hot coffee. Once in El Chaltén, we start our trek. We carry in our packs only the necessary items for these 2 nights and 3 days in which we’ll overnight in our Full Camps inside the National Park. What we don’t need is left behind at our office and you will find it back at your accommodation when we arrive back to El Chaltén on day 4. Lodging: Full Camp Provided meals: Breakfast, Box Lunch, Dinner Full Camps are pitched up early in the season, so we find the camp ready upon arrival. The Camp is pre-assembled with large igloo-type tents that are used on a double or single basis. Within them, each passenger is provided with an insulating mat and a high mountain sleeping bag. The camp has a kitchen and a dining room with a table, benches and dishes. The toilets are organized through a latrine bath system. (rugged area) Day 3 Cerro Fitz Roy - Laguna de los Tres Early in the morning, before the first coffee, we can try to match up the morning light getting pink in Fitz Roy granite walls. You only need this to feel the trip is worthwhile. But of course the day offers much more. We start the day carrying only our coat, food, water bottle and camera, always with the background views of the needles of the Fitz Roy massif. We arrived at the Fitz Roy Base Camp called Rio Blanco. From here a steep climb of an hour and a half takes us to one of the most spectacular viewpoints of the park: Laguna de los Tres. This hill and its needles rise in front of us about 1500 meters above the surrounding glaciers. The Fitz Roy Hill is considered one of the three most spectacular mountains in the world, along with the Alpamayo Hill in Peru and the K2 in Karakoram. In the afternoon we return to our camp. (Approx. 5 hours) Lodging: Full Camp Provided meals: Breakfast, Box Lunch, Dinner Day 4 Cerro Torre – El Chalten In the morning we walk south to join the path that runs through the Valley of the Mother and Daughter Lagoons. Crossing a thick forest and areas of mallines, we descend to the Cerro Torre Valley, where the Fitz Roy River runs, which we traced until its birth in Laguna Torre. This lagoon enclosed between brunettes generally piles icebergs that come off the Great Glacier, which falls at its western end. The impressive group of needles of Cerro Torre, with its slender 3128 meters high, frame the landscape. We travel around the Laguna Tower with views of Solo Hill and Adela Glacier. At sunset we return to El Chalten along the Torre trail. Lodging: Lodge Provided meals: Breakfast, Box Lunch Day 5 El Chalten – Loma del Pliegue Tumbado This hill, located immediately south of the Fitz Roy River and closing the Tower Valley on that side, offers some of the most beautiful views over the area's mountains, including the Fitz Roy, the Tower and its valleys and glaciers. We walk through steppe, thicket and forest until we reach the intermediate viewpoints of the mountain, from where we will have panoramic views of the park. In the afternoon we return to El Chalten Lodging: Lodge Provided meals: Breakfast, Box Lunch Day 6 El Chalten – El Calafate Morning at your own to visit the picturesque village or to make optional excursions such as Lago del Desierto (in spite of its name, its a beautiful, beech forest surrounded lake, with hanging glaciers in its west side), or to see very interesting information at the National Park Visitor Centre. In the afternoon we take our bus to our next destination, El Calafate, gateway for the glaciers area of the Park. Arrival time in the evening . Driving distance: 220 km Lodging in a lodge Meals we provide: Breakfast. Day 7 El Calafate – Perito Moreno Glacier We dedicate this day to one of the World’s Natural Wonder: the Moreno glacier. This ice field- type glacier flows down from the Patagonian Icefield, a big sheet of ice that with its 22.000 square kilometres is the third largest glacier area in the world, after Antarctica (14 M sq km) and Greenland (1 M sq km). Because unusual favourable local conditions, this glacier is the only one in the world that shows a closure and rupture process. The road leads to the very front of the glacier, which will be only meters away from your eyes. A beautiful, short trail, will lead us from the shores of the lake to the upper viewpoints. The roar of the chunks of ice falling inside the glacier or from the glacier into the lake, the frequent collapse of the front seracs into the turquoise water, makes out of this day a very special and unique experience. We will drive 80 km (1 and a half hour) to get and come back from the glacier across the steppe, watching a wide variety of birds. Lodging in a lodge Meals we provide: Breakfast. "The trip was very nice. There was a bunch from people from Europe (the majority of the group was from Europe) and they continued on to Ushuaia. But the Argentina part (my part) was very sweet – the weather and the places.…Thank you for checking!" Natalia "Thank you for reaching out. The trip was excellent! All logistics for this portion of our trip went very smoothly and we especially enjoyed our guide Julia for the camping and hiking portion of the trip. We'd love to return someday. We also got pretty lucky with the weather. It is definitely "wild" Patagonia!" Jessie |
