Hato La Aurora Private Natural Reserve is like the Colombian Pantanal, so many nature and birding companies bring clients there. It is more remote than other ranches in the area, so you normally see more wildlife. But it is just emerging as a tourism destination, so the infrastructure is very basic and authentic. The reserve (filmed by BCC & Animal Planet) has capybaras, 325 bird species, caiman, deer, anacondas up to 7m long, anteaters and jaguars. They have an ongoing project to increase the population of jaguars in the area so it is the best place in Colombia to try to see them.
Activities include safaris, piranha fishing, walking and horse riding, traditional life of vagueros - Colombian cowboys & cattle farming.
