Refugio Amazonas

Refugio Amazonas Lodge will be closed for maintenance from Jan. to March 2024.

Refugio Amazonas is a 32-bedroom lodge four hours from the Puerto Maldonado airport. It is ideal for soft adventurers and families, and has a rainforest trail designed especially for children, the only one in the Peruvian Amazon.

Refugio Amazonas is located in a 200-hectare private reserve within the buffer zone of the Tambopata National Reserve. The operator is partnering with local families, who sustainably harvest Brazil nuts from the surrounding rainforest, to ensure that they share in the benefits of ecotourism.

Raised Boardwalks - Four wings of 8 rooms connected by raised boardwalks
Private Bathrooms– All of the bathrooms at Refugio Amazonas are private. Hot water is available
Dining Room and Loft - The dining room is a huge open building with a loft on the second story for an eye level view of the surrounding rainforest canopy.
Great for Children – Refugio Amazonas has a rainforest trail and a children’s playground.
Wellness Center – Refugio Amazonas contains a wellness and holistic center for massages and aromatherapy.
Electricity - A 110V generator is turned on once a day to recharge batteries for guests or lodge facilities. At night it is very dark, so we recommend good flashlights. Light is provided by numerous lamps and candles.
Communication – Refugio Amazonas is in daily contact with our offices in Puerto Maldonado and Lima via internet, satellite phone and hf radio.
Jungle Views - Bedrooms open out onto the surrounding rainforest, allowing guests to enjoy this unique ecosystem even on their downtime, with wild animals, including monkeys, often visible from the lodge.

Mosquito Nets - All rooms have mosquito nets over the beds, bedside tables and a rack of clothes hangers.

Canopy Tower – Our 30 meter scaffolding canopy tower gives you spectacular views of the vast expanses of standing forest. You will have good chances of spotting toucans, parrots, macaws or mixed species canopy flocks.
Lake - We will paddle around the Lake Condenado on a catamaran, looking for wildlife such a hoatzin, caiman or horned screamers.
Claylicks - From a blind you will see parrots and parakeets descend on most days to ingest the clay on a river bank.
Cultural Activities – Visit an ethnobotanical trail, working jungle farm, and a real Brazil nut concession.

Science activities - Wired Amazon is a collection of science projects, which allows Refugio Amazonas Lodge’s guests to engage with a very diverse group of scientists and their research, help collect important data, and even have the chance to discover a species new to science! Comfort Rooms
The fascinating sounds and colors of the forest are important elements of the experience during your stay in the 42 square meter (453 square feet) Comfort rooms. The entire decoration is based on Yanchama, a natural bark that is “harvested” by artisans from Eseeja community of Infierno. The rooms are single, double or twin, as requested, Each one is equipped with 2 double beds, a mosquito net, two hypoallergenic pillows per person, a hammock and a reading table. Rooms have spacious private bathrooms with hot water. Electric lighting is available 24 hours, at your bedside table, your bathroom and an outlet to charge your electronics. Free Internet is available in every room. Each visitor has access to a personal safe-deposit box, an umbrella for rain and a special set of eco-friendly amenities.

Add a bit of extra, upgraded comfort and quality to your Amazon experience by staying in one of the 52 square meter (604 square feet) suites . These rooms also add comfort with 2 big luxurious king size beds, hypoallergenic pillows, ceiling fans, 24 hour electricity, indoor sitting area with free mini bar and other fine amenities in the middle of the jungle.

Meals at Refugio Amazonas Lodge
Self-serve three course meals are provided at Refugio Amazonas. Meals consist of soup or appetizers, salad, main course, and desserts combining Peruvian and international cuisine. All fresh fruits and salads are thoroughly disinfected before serving. They also provide at all times unlimited amounts of boiled, filtered, cooled drinking water, coffee or tea and we provide fruit juices during the meals. If any visitor has special dietary requirements, they are happy to make individual arrangements, if notified.

Activity Information

Since 2017, they've been offering A la carte programs successfully. This experience, allows guests to choose onsite from a menu of more than 22 excursions combining nature, adventure, family activities and science. In 2017, 88% of guests that arrived with classic (fixed) itineraries, did the upgrade to an a la carte experience when they arrived to the lodge, highlighting the flexibility and the wide variety of activities included. So that is all that is offered now..

Biosafety Protocols

Because the safety of their guests and team is a priority for them, they present the essential protocols for their operation:

Temperature measurement upon arrival of guests.
We will request the use of masks throughout their stay.
Guests will have antibacterial gel accessible all around the lodge.
During transfers, guests must respect social distancing between reservations.
Our buses and boats will operate at 50% of their capacity.
Guests will participate in excursions and activities in small groups of 6 people per guide.
Buffets are suspended until further notice. The food will be served fresh upon arrival of the guest to the dining room, respecting the due distance between reservation bubbles.
We have reduced the time of Check-In and Check-Out.
The rooms go through a disinfection process at Check Out.

Remember that the eco-lodge is open to the forest to maximize the guests' experience with nature, which allows adequate ventilation in all environments.
