In 2019, La Macarena received the Sustainable Destination Certification from the Ministry of Industry, Trade and Tourism. This distinction was achieved thanks to the responsible management of flora and fauna resources, for helping in preserving the culture of the region and for the development of a sustainable tourism that has embraced the local communities since the beginning. The associations in charge of preserving the ecotourism habitat in the National Natural Park of Sierra de La Macarena have determined that it is strictly prohibited to bring into this protected area single-use plastics such as plastic bags, bottles, straws, containers, cups, and plates. Additionally, due to the importance and care that this ecosystem needs, the corporations have established a limited visitors capacity so that tourists find a space full of nature and without overcrowding. |
