La Macarena Community Experience

La Macarena is a small town lost in the jungle that is not easy accessible. The locals have created an off the Beaten Path Jungle Experience, created and hosted by themselves, looking to develop new amazing experiences. Enjoy a homestay in the jungle and learn how these communities are moving today to Ecotourism, in the unique Macarena Sierra. This is our way to help them and enjoy an adventure.

With this amazing 4 day trip you will have the possibility to enjoy calmly the off the beaten path jungle that you never visit when you are only going to the Caño Cristales River. You will be amazed by the secrets that waits for you!. Hiking, or using canoes we will go deep to enjoy geological rocky formations resembling cities, canyons like the mighty Cajon at Raudal Guayabero 1, carved in the rock deep inside the jungle by which the waters leaks sometimes even creating waterfalls, or quiet secret lagoon inside the jungle full of birds, monkeys, Caiman and some other mammals. We will have the chance to observe ancient petroglyphs carved in the rock. We will go by the hand of the local guides of the community to do some short hikes for learning about the diverse fauna and flora of the region, or even better!, if you prefer we can enjoy an adventure activity going down the Guayabero river in plastic kayaks or pneumatics for enjoy a bath at the river. This time is an immersive experience in the vast nature of La Macarena, using rural accommodations of the community or an amazing night in a nice ecolodge in the middle of the jungle. Duration: 4 days Season: All Year Accommodation: Hotel in the town. (Optional Accommodation with the communities or in an upscale nice Ecolodge in the jungle). Trip Type: Active WE ENCOURAGE OUR CLIENTS TO TAKE AT LEAST 1 NIGHT TO STAY AT THE COMMUNITIES AS PART OF OUR PROCESS TO SUPPORT THESE PEOPLE THAT ARE CHANGING THEIR LIFES WITH THE TOURISM. Sample Itinerary: Day 1. Lagoon of silence, Cachivera Sector After Arriving and having the briefing at the NNP office we will depart from the port of Macarena. Sighting along the Guayabero river to the mouth of the Silence Lagoon on a canoe, short hike nearby the lagoon, and the path back through the school of the Cachivera. Option 1: The Silent lagoon, for this we would take a boat by the Guayabero river around 20 minutes from la Macarena. We would walk in the savannah (2.8kms length, flat hike among pastures) around 1 hour to arrive to the community. They will show us the amazing fauna and landscape surrounding the jungle nearby the Silent Lagoon and how they have been now dedicating all their efforts to protect the jungle and change from cattle to Ecotourism. After settling down in the community homestay we will go on a boat to tour around the lagoon for a couple of hours until the sunset to have the chance to experience it in complete silence its fauna and the sounds of the jungle around this incredible lagoon. Then we will return to rest until the next day. Duration:1 hour. Hiking (or 30 minutes in horseback riding). Distance:2.8kms length, flat hike among pastures. Option 2: Departing in boat by the Guayabero river around 20 minutes, 8.8kms by the river. (main ¨Highway¨ to all destinations during the trip.) At the arrival, 1-hour nature observation hike until the Silence Lagoon. (3.8kms length, flat hike among pastures) this could be done in horseback ride if not interested in hiking. We will arrive to a place where we would be able to swim if we want in the pristine waters of the river entering the lagoon. 1-hour activity and have the lunch with fresh fish served by the community (exist Veggie option). Later we would go hiking through the jungle another 2km to take the boat to paddle across the lagoon to see its beautiful landscape and fauna and to arrive to the wooden cabins owned by the community where we would stay. At the evening we would have time to share and talk with the locals while the dinner is ready and for the sunset we will go out to the lagoon to see the fauna and the jungle around. Duration:1 hour and a half. Distance: 3.8kms length, flat hike among pastures. Optional Complementary Activity if staying in community: Night typical fishing with the locals. This only if the weather allows it and the people want to do it. ON DEMAND. The idea is that while they end up doing the dinner or after that you can go with the local guides to have a small demonstration of how the fish in the night in the lagoon. Accommodation at wooden cabins built and owned by the community, with shared bathrooms. The setting of this activities can vary according to the arrival time and interest of the clients. Day 2. Raudal de Angostura I and Ciudad de Piedra Hike or Miradores del Cajon hike, sighting of the birds that inhabit this sector and visit the cave paintings and petroglyphs in the area of the Raudal and its canyon. Option 1: We will do the crossing of Raudal Angosturas 1 on a boat, (rapids formed by the river crossing for 3 kilometres between 100meters tall rocky canyon) is a magical place called Cajon by locals, that is this mighty canyon formed by rocks narrowing the pass of the Guayavero river for 3kms from 300metres to only 30metres. This pass we will do it round trip and at the end of the canyon we would do a quick stop to see some ancient petroglyphs carved in the rock. This depends on river level. Time of the activity: 2hours Option 2: We will do the hiking of los Miradores, which is the trail alongside the top of the Canyon of the Guayabero river, crossing the jungle for 4.8km one way, enjoying the beautiful views of the river, and if we are lucky to see some fauna on the path, like monkeys, birds, or even more! At the end of the hike we will have time to rest on the shore of the river while we see and enjoy some petroglyphs carved in the rocks, from an unknown origin and age. After this we would return by boat on the river. (depending on the river level) Time of the hike: 3hours Time of the boat return: 20 min Option 3 In this option we do the hiking round trip, which would be 9.8km. It might take 6 hours minimum with some stops to rest and enjoy the views. Accommodation with the community in comfortable tents with air mattresses, blankets and pillows, set at indoors wooden house shared Bathroom. Optional Complementary Activity At Raudal: Let’s learn and join the local ladies at Raudal how they cook Patacones, their famous red berries local jam! Or let’s see how they prepare the fish that they brought fresh from the river ¡to cook it for the lunch! These activities can be prepared if the people want it, ON DEMAND. As part of the communitarian experience. (better in groups of 2 people at a time for avoiding to many people at the kitchen. Day 3. Ciudad de Piedra Hike Departing from Raudal Community at 6am with after having the breakfast to explore the area with the locals. We will visit after crossing the river to Ciudad de Piedra. we will do in the morning The hike to Ciudad de Piedra which is a 5 to 6 hours’ hike. (12kms hike round trip, very small inclination going up at the beginning, then flat hike among rocky formations, pastures and the jungle, this one is a circuit hike). Day 4. Return day. If the weather allows it, we will take you to see the sunset before you need to go to the airport. Breakfast in the village. After this, go to the hotel and take the flight back to the city of origin. Optional ADD-ON or (REPLACE) Activity, at extra cost: Caño Canoas day trip: Today we depart from Macarena by car around 3 hours away from the town, one of the most spectacular waterfalls of the jungle in Colombia, Caño Canoas, this a day trip (almost 60KM to get there by unpaved road). After the 4x4 trip we would do a short hike to reach Caño Canoas area, where we would enjoy the rest of the day walking by the river, swimming and enjoying. The lunch would be at the end of the hike to the waterfall circuit. You will have the chance to take a bath in the waters of the waterfall. Distance: 2,8km round way Time of the Activity: 3 hours plus lunch time. THIS ACTIVITY WILL GO IN 4X4 ONLY IF THE GROUP IS MINIMUM OF 2 PAX. IF IS ONLY ONE PAX THE IDEA IS TO SEND THE PERSON ON A MOTORBIKE. (PREVIUS AGREEMENT) UNLESS ACCEPT TO PAY THE EXTRA CHARGE OF THE 4X4). |
