and human interactions. It has a mix of the hidden gems in the south of the country, adding a visit to the beautiful Caribbean Sea and the eco-touristic destination of Santa Marta. On this tour you can expect to have many interactions with indigenous and rural communities in their territories, while enjoying some of the most important archeological sites of the country, the Andean mountains of the south of the country, the marvelous beaches of the Caribbean, along with astonishing nature, national parks, the architecture of colonial towns and cities and a general great cultural component. |
DAY 1 - WELCOMING IN BOGOTÁ
We will pick up the group at the El Dorado Airport and take them to the chosen hotel. Our bilingual guide will be waiting at the exit of the airport with a banner with the name of the passengers. At night the group will have time for dinner and rest. MEALS: (-/-/-) HOTEL: HOTEL DE LA OPERA OR SIMILAR DAY 2 - EXPLORING BOGOTÁ Today, after you recover from the international flight, you will have a full day city-tour, where you will visit the most iconic spots of the capital of Colombia, such as the La Candelaria neighborhood, Monserrate church and the gold museum of Bogota. MEALS: (B/L/-) HOTEL: HOTEL DE LA OPERA OR SIMILAR DAY 3 - GUATAVITA + ZIPAQUIRÁ Today, we will start our full day private tour early in the morning in order to visit the 2 most iconic attractions of the surrounding area of Bogota: Guatavita lagoon and the Zipaquirá Salt cathedral. Both destinations hold important secrets of the history of the region. MEALS: (B/L/-) HOTEL: HOTEL DE LA OPERA OR SIMILAR The San Agustín Archaeological Park is considered to be the birthplace of one of the oldest cultures in Latin America. This region was home to a civilization that dates to XXXIII BC., leaving a legacy of a UNESCO site of the largest group of religious monuments and megalithic sculptures in South America (more than 300 pre-Hispanic monolithic statues), created from volcanic rock that weight up to 5 tons, reach up to 7 meters high and were used in funerary rituals. DAY 4 - SAN AGUSTIN ARCHEOLOGICAL PARK
Today, you will fly directly from Bogota to Pitalito airport (11:02- 12:23) and from there you will have a 30 minute transfer to San Agustin, where you will check-in at the chosen hotel. In the afternoon you will witness the enigmatic statues of the archeological park with our bilingual guide. MEALS: (B/L/-) HOTEL: AKAWANKA LODGE OR SIMILAR DAY 5 - TOURISTIC RING OF SAN AGUSTIN Today, you will visit by car the main attractions of the surrounding area of San Agustin, which are the Bordones waterfall, the Magdalena strait, the Obando museum, the statues of Isnos and alto de los ídolos. Here you will have a mix of local history learning and great natural landscapes. MEALS: (B/L/-) HOTEL: AKAWANKA LODGE OR SIMILAR DAY 6 - PURUTAL & LA PELOTA STATUES
Today, you will visit some of the most beautiful statues of the whole region, located at the La Pelota and Purutal sites. These statues still keep the original colors that the sculptors used more than 2.000 years ago. In the afternoon you will be taken on a 4 hour transfer to the city of Popayán, passing by astonishing landscapes of the Colombian Andes. MEALS: (B/L/D) HOTEL: PUENTE TIERRA CABINS DAY 7 - PURACÉ NATIONAL PARK On this day, you will explore by car and some hikes the main attractions of the Puracé National Park, where you can see different waterfalls, hot-springs, well preserved ecosystems at 3.000 m.a.s.l. and even the Andean condor, all of that in an indigenous territory. In the afternoon you will be taken on a 1 hour transfer to the city of Popayán. DAY 8 - POPAYAN, THE WHITE CITY Today you will have a morning city tour, visiting the beautiful historical center of Popayán, which is called the white city as its buildings preserve this color of the colonial times. In the afternoon you will be taken in a 3-hours ride to the vibrant city of Cali. MEALS: (B/-/-) HOTEL: HOTEL BOUTIQUE SAN ANTONIO OR SIMILAR DAY 9 - CALI, THE CITY OF SALSA AND MUSIC Today, you will explore Cali, which is the third largest city in Colombia and the world's capital of Salsa music. During the morning you will have a guided city-tour and in the afternoon you can explore the city on your own. You can optionally hire an activity at night in order to attend one of the several highly recommended live Salsa dance showss. |
DAY 10 - SANTA MARTA, THE OLDEST CITY OF SOUTH AMERICA
Today you will fly to Santa Marta (10:38-11:58), where you will have free time to enjoy this city, which is the oldest of South America. It has great warm Caribbean weather, some interesting spots, museums and a very walkable downtown full of energy and local music or you can hire a city tour with us. DAY 11 - BUNKUANY TOUR FULL DAY Today, we will pick you up at 6:00 AM and will take in a 1 hour ride you to Bunkuany, where we will hike 15 kms in total deep inside Tayrona national park, having included activities with local indigenous people (only for groups of 6 or more travelers) in this place, which is a sacred archeological site still revered. Later on, we will take you to your ecolodge located inside Tayrona national park. The name Bunkuany, by which this ancient Tairona site is known, is a name given by theindigenous Koguis. It is related to the stones with which its terraces were raised and some rock carvings that have been found. These seem to tell a story, as if they were speaking to us. Hence its name, Bunkuany, the "place of the stones that speak". MEALS: (B/L/-) HOTEL: ECOHOTEL YACHAY OR SIMILAR DAY 12 - TAYRONA NATIONAL PARK FULL DAY Today we will take you in a guided tour visiting the main spots of Tayrona National park, which is probably the most famous national park nationwide. Here you will have a hike through well preserved ecosystems till you arrive to the rocky beaches of this place and late in the afternoon will get back to the ecolodge. MEALS: (B/L/-) HOTEL: ECOHOTEL YACHAY OR SIMILAR DAY 13 - TAYRONAKA + DON DIEGO RIVER Today, you will visit Tayronaka, which is an archeological site with a museum of the ancient civilization that inhabited the area. This extinct indigenous settlement still has trails and terraces of the Tayrona civilization and today it is still frequented by their descendants, the Koguis. The reserve marvels the visitor with its exuberant flora.In the afternoon you will do a tubing activity in the refreshing waters of Don Diego river, where you can relax and see some fauna before arriving to the Caribbean sea. Later on, you will be taken back to the hotel in Santa Marta.
