Cartagena and the Caribbean
The Caribbean Coast of Colombia has been a popular destination for decades. The region´s tropical beaches, wonderful climate and colonial cities, such as Cartagena with its colorful houses, attract visitors from all over the world. Besides Cartagena, also the beach town of Santa Marta, the exotic islands, such as San Andres, Tayrona National Park – perfect for trekking and relaxing, and the culturally rich area of Guajira are destinations that should not be missed when visiting Colombia.
Every year, the indigenous communities of Sierra Nevada in Santa Marta close National Park Tayrona to ensure its ecological, environmental, and spiritual restoration and healing. This closure takes place three times a year, from the 1st to the 15th of February, from the 1st to the 15th of June and from the 19th of October to the 2nd of November.
