A trip to the Amazon, Nobres, Chapada dos Guimaraes, and the Pantanal , offers a rich variety of experiences, including wildlife sightings and stunning landscapes.
Jardin da Amazonia is in a rich ecosystem that hosts a variety of plant and animal species. Some of the notable animals include the Red-tailed Boa, Cuvier's dwarf caiman, and various species of frogs. The region is particularly rich in bird species, with Amazonian specialties such as the Crested Eagle, Zigzag Heron, Amazonian Pygmy-Owl, Dot-eared Coquette, Black-bellied Thorntail, Black-girdled Barbet, Spotted Puffbird, Gould’s Toucanet, Lettered Aracari, Cream-colored Woodpecker, Rufous-capped Nunlet, Large-billed Antwren, Tooth-billed wren, Pink-throated Becard, White-browed Purpletuft, Amazonian Umbrellabird, Blue-cheeked Jacamar, Point-tailed Palmcreeper, Snow-capped and Fiery-capped Manakin, Blue-necked and Dotted Tanager, and Slaty-capped Shrike Vireo. At Nobres, you can snorkel in crystal-clear jungle rivers and lagoons teeming with fish. The landscape is dotted with palm trees and marshy areas, which become particularly picturesque at sunset when you can spot hundreds of blue macaws and green parakeets Chapada dos Guimaraes features stunning rock formations, beautiful waterfalls, and panoramic lookouts amidst the lush nature of the cerrado, with trails passing through different types of vegetation The Pantanal is a fantastic location for wildlife watching. Here, you can see the world’s largest parrot (hyacinth macaw), the largest rodent (the pig-sized capybara), the longest snake (green anaconda), and the greatest gathering of crocodilians. |
Day 1 .../ CUIABÁ to AMAZON Garden (5-6h) LD
You will be met at the airport or hotel in the morning (departure as late as noon) to drive on the the transition from the Savannah to the Amazon, through the town of São José do Rio Claro, with arrival in time to enjoy a wonderful relaxing bath in a water spring with a fast flow and of crystalline color. Day 2 AMAZON GARDEN BLD After breakfast, we do a walk through the dense forest, with lunch and resting at a pleasant shelter. Return by silent canoes, with the possibility of observing many birds and other animals (over 570 bird species here have been listed on ebird). The rest of the afternoon is free for a relaxing bath in a natural swimming pool. After dinner we do a caiman spotting excursion with possibility of seeing other nocturnal animals too. Overnight. Day 3 AMAZON GARDEN BLD After breakfast, departure for a walk on the Pequiá (large amazon tree) Trail. Lunch at the lodge and, at in the afternoon, departure for a canoe trip along the river Claro, with the possibility of seeing many primates and birds at the Macaws' Lake. Day 4 AMAZON GARDEN to NOBRES (4h) BLD After breakfast, departure for a drive through the transition of the Amazon to the Savannah at the region of Nobres, which has plenty of crystalline water springs and limestone caves, that are the home to a large variety of fishes and birds, especially Macaws, Parrots and Parakeets. But it is also possible to see the elusive Stingray fish, a true proof of the geological formation of the South America continent. Lunch on the way and arrival in time to see the spectacular sunset at the Macaws' lake, when lots of these birds come to roost on the many palm trees at the water spring. Day 5 NOBRES to CHAPADA DAS GUIMARÃES (1h30m) BLD Departure to do Snorkeling in a water spring, with a beautiful clear blue color together with the colorful fish; then, on to the Salobra river, where we observe rich aquatic fauna & flora. Transfer to the Chapada Tableland - at 900 meters of altitude - where we can observe a gorgeous sunset in a large panorama that includes the water spring of three very important rivers that form the Pantanal. Then, on to the pleasant town of Chapada dos Guimarães for dinner and overnight. Day 6 CHAPADA GUIMARÃES to PANTANAL (3h) BLD Optional early morning visit to the Portão da Fé, a place very rich in avian fauna. Brief visits to the National Park (over 490 bird species here have been listed on ebird), with optional bath in one waterfall and visit to the largest one - Véu de Noiva which is 86 meters high and enters a majestic canyon. Lunch and immediate transfer to the traditional town of Poconé with introduction to the geological formation and flora characteristics, then to the lodge, arriving there after an overland safari along the Transpantaneira park road with many stops to observe the first Egrets, Storks, Rheas, Toucans, Capybaras and Caimans of its rich fauna among 700 species of birds, 120 of mammals, 80 of reptiles... Dinner and night safari through the fields – a night-time drive using a vehicle equipped with a flashlight for highlighting nocturnal fauna, with the chance to observe Crab-eating Foxes, Deer, many Caiman’s eyes and, with a bit of luck, Ocelots or Jaguars! Day 7 PANTANAL BLD In the morning is a walk to one of the many mound-hills, which attract a lot of mammals among many birds nests. In the afternoon is a departure on an overland safari through the fields and forests until a beautiful lake, with the possibility of seeing many bird nesting sites, reptiles and mammals, from the top of the panoramic tower - especially nice at the sunset. On the way back, we have a chance to see Jaguars that are protected at that area. Return at dusk, with a chance to see some nocturnal animals, such as Rabbits, Armadillos, Foxes… Day 8 PANTANAL to CUIABÁ (2h) B In the early morning is a drive through the place plenty of termites mounds, in order to try to see the Giant Anteater. Breakfast and departure to Cuiabá with drop-off at the airport at the convenient time or continuation to another destination in the Pantanal. or extend your time by adding Porto Jofre for jaguars! Day 8 PANTANAL to JAGUAR SEEKING (4h) LD In the early morning is a drive through the place plenty of termites mounds, in order to try to see the Giant Anteater. Breakfast and departure for an overland safari along the Transpantaneira park-road until it’s end, on the km 145, at the Cuiabá river banks in Porto Jofre. Arrival for lunch and, in the afternoon, is our first boat ride seeking for Jaguars among other animals such as Giant river-otters, Tapirs, etc. Day 9 JAGUAR SEEKING BLD Departure by boats equipped with radio-communication for navigating the rivers Cuiabá, São Lourenço, Three Brothers and Piquiri, seeking for Jaguars, hunting Caiman or simply resting on the banks. On the journey can be observed many other species of the rich fauna as the Giant river Otters, Tapirs among hundreds of birds including the Black-skimmer. During these days, expeditions would be done in varied times of the day (some tours in the early morning or late night) on a way to maximize the chance to see the largest cat in Americas. Day 10 JAGUAR SEEKING to CUIABÁ (6-7h) BL After breakfast, departure back to Cuiabá with drop-off at the hotel or the airport for a late afternoon or evening departure |
