Day 1: Curitiba
Private transfer with driver guide from the airport to the hotel in Curitiba (30 min / 17 km approx). Overnight at Hotel Pestana Curitiba in superior room with breakfast. Curitiba is full of culture, cuisine, and is considered the ecological capital of the country! Besides being adjacent to the largest remaining Atlantic Forest area, it has 58m² extension of green space per person. Visiting the parks in the city is a obligatory stop, and Jardim Botanico, the Botanical Garden, is the picture perfect postcard of the city. Various ethnic groups, like the Japanese and Ukrainian, were part of the city's development, and therefore typical dishes and architecture from their and other European cultures are present in everyday life. However, the "pinhão," a nut grown and gathered by local farmers, is the symbol of the region and can be consumed in various elaborate dishes. Street markets are a specialty of the city: on Sundays, the most famous Curitiba day market is Feira do Largo da Ordem, where you will find local artisan products, music and cuisine, but get there early, as the market closes at 1400h! The most famous night food markets are the Feira do Batel, on Tuesday evening, and the Feira da Praça da Ucrânia, on Fridays. 4 hour city tour with driver guide. The first stop of your tour is going to be the Jardim Botânico that’s a beautiful garden and greenhouse where you can find a wide variety of plants and vegetables. After that, you will have a panoramic view from inside of the vehicle for the XV street that’s the center of commerce center and the cathedral of the city. Next stops: Oscar Niemeyer Museum; this museum is one of the greatest brazilian art works and it’s considered one of the most important and beautiful places to visit in Curitiba and Bosque do Papa João Paulo II that is a forest with structures that honors the polish immigration, with the use of statues of Black Madonna of Czestochowa and also Pope John Paul II as tribute. Opera de Arame Theater, the theater has a metal structure made of steel tubes and transparent plaques, surrounded by an artificial lake. Tanguá Park, place where you will find beautiful lakes, forest, waterfalls, jogging trails and also a cycling infrastructure. Unilivre park - this park is also a university which provides studies and research on the environment and ecology matters. A wonderful green area surrounds this university and it’s open to visitors, there you can also find one incredible quarry and spiral ramps that provide access to one viewpoint of the entire place. The ride includes 110 kilometers travelling through the biggest Atlantic Rainforest conservation area of Brazil and on a railway from 1885. The ride to Morretes takes approximately 3 hours and you will have fantastic views of the coastal mountain range of this region. IMPORTANT - The train does not operate daily! You can still visit Morretes without the train! If the date of your travel doesn't match the departures of the trains, please consult us that we will offer you another beautiful way to get to Morretes. Founded in 1733 by Jesuits, the town of Morretes is full of exuberant nature, located in one of the largest remaining trans atlantic rainforests. While in Morretes be sure to sample all the delights that the region has to offer. From the famous "Bala de Banana," ginger ice cream, and "barreado" - a dish traditionally prepared in a clay pot, made with beef or pork and cassava flour, often accompanied with banana and orange slices. Cachaça, a locally produced liquor, is also an important attraction of Morretes as there are traditional distilleries producing cachaça for over 100 years in the area, which can be visited by jeep tour. Private transfer from Morretes to Pontal do Sul (Time of duration: 1h15 / 67 km approximately). Here you take a regular boat from Pontal do Sul to Ilha do Mel. (30 min approx). On arrival at the pier you'll receive both boat tickets (round trip). Please make sure you keep your return ticket safe for your transfer back from the island. IMPORTANT: there are no cash machines in Ilha do Mel, so please make sure you have enough cash for your days in the island. Some places take credit card for your convenience. We recommend renting a bike or walking to the FORTALEZA NOSSA SENHORA DOS PRAZERES: The imposing fortress was built to protect the Paranaguá Bay of Spanish attacks. A beautiful 40-minute walk (or 20 minutes bike ride) along the beach at low tide - leaving the village of Nova Brasília - leads to a historic fortress of 1770 on the seafront. Inside the fort you can visit the rooms that served as a prison and also the Commander's House, but the best is on the outside: the English and Portuguese cannons from the 18th and 19th centuries, still installed in their original positions. A steep trail leads to the top of the hill, with more modern guns and trenches of the period of World War II, and an impressive panoramic view. TREKKING TO ENCANTADAS GROTTO: This grotto was formed by magmatic rock block cutted verticaly by a strip of basalt. Due to the softness of this rock, it has been suffered impact of the water for at least 150 million of years. There are two ways to get to Encantadas Grotto if you are staying at Brasilia: by boat (30’) or walking (2h) by the beautiful beaches of Praia Grande, Praia do Miguel and Praia de Encantadas. The large opening in the middle of the rocks out of the Encantadas beach is one of the classic images of the island. Access is done during low tide, usually between 8am - 01pm, a light trail facilitated by a deck on the rocks leads its visitors to the Grotto. Level : Intermediate.
