Paraty Kayak Beach Hopper (can do SUP if you prefer)
Brazil's Green Coast, just south of Rio de Janeiro, has all the ingredients for an amazing sea kayaking experience. In 2012 National Geographic Traveler called this area "a sea kayaker’s dream" and, with its deserted sandy beaches, tropical islands, Rainforest covered hills and traditional Caiçara fishing villages, it’s easy to see why!
Setting out from the picturesque colonial town of Paraty we spend 3 days kayaking the warm waters of Brazil's only tropical fjord, paddling across naturally protected bays and through mangrove forests with stops at islands and beaches. |
Highlights of this lodge-based trip include:
- Island hopping by kayak in the bays around Paraty
- The beautiful sandy beaches of Brazil’s tropical Green Coast.
- Brazil’s only tropical fjord seen from the Mamangua Sugarloaf peak
- Mangrove exploration
- Experiencing the Caiçara Culture of the remote, local fishing communities.
- Flora and fauna of Brazil’s Forgotten Forest, the Atlantic Rainforest
- The 19th Century colonial town ofParaty, a UNESCO nominated World Heritage site

Days 2 to 4: Sea Kayaking on Brazil’s Green Coast
The exact kayaking route will vary depending on local weather conditions. We paddle for approximately 3 to 5 hours per day, with plenty of time for relaxation and other activities. We alternate long ‘push’ paddling days (days 2 and 4) with a shorter more leisurely paddle day (day 3)

When to come & Weather conditions We work all year round. However, the best time for sea kayaking is Brazilian autumn/ fall and winter (March to August) when it is cooler, drier and sunnier. During these months temperatures are around mid 20s Celsius (mid 80s Fahrenheit) during the day, not humid, and cooler at night, 15 Celsius (60 Farhenheit). December, January and February are the tropical summer months which are very hot, very humid and very wet. These months are best avoided if you are not used to the heat. April, May, June and October and November are the quietest low tourist season months. It’s best to avoid Easter and national holidays as the town and the bay get busier and prices go up. Paddling conditions Mostly flat water paddling in 3 different protected bays, ideal for beginners. Beautiful scenery for all levels. We monitor conditions and group’s abilities and change the route as appropriate. Guides Experienced in leading kayak groups in the region. Advanced kayak skills and rescue training by American Canoe Assocation (ACA) Speak English and Portuguese. Trained and certified in Wilderness First Aid (NOLS). |
