Cafayate, near Salta, is home to some great wineries and there are some interesting sites near there - enough to make a great 3 day or longer tour.
|
For example......
DAY 01 – From Salta drive south to Cafayate. Along the first part we see the suburbs of Salta and other small villages. Then we enter the Cafayate canyon of beautiful rock formations and if you would like to hike a bit, we can stop in a nice place and do a bit of hiking. If not you can go straight to Cafayate. Driving time 3 hours + stops on the way. Arrival normally (if no hike) by midday. Have lunch Afternoon visit of some wineries: We recommend: El Esteco (where Patios de Cafayate is located) and Finca Las Nubes, another excellent choice and a great location which overlooks the valley. DAY 02 – A combination of:
a- Visit Quilmes Sacred city and Amaicha (which is a not to be missed area) b- Visit more wineries – Piatelli, a new venture (sister of the one in Mendoza) and then San Pedro de Yacochuya, which has also received many international awards + visit the Wine Museum and the small village of Cafayate c- Visit some of the mentioned wineries and do a round of golf at Estancia Cafayate . DAY 03 – Continue the exploration via the Calchaqui Valleys to Molinos so you can visit Colome. You can leave early in the morning enjoy the superb drive via the Quebrada de las Flechas (Arrow`s canyon) and then arrive at Colome at midday and follow with the Colome program. Visit the quaint small village of Colome, the modern winery and the unbelievable James Turrell Museum with an installation of James Turrell`s masterpieces which belong to the owners` private collection. A museum which will make you think you are in the heart of New York City!
Or drive back to Salta or drive further South to Tafi del Valle. This would be a private tour. |
