DAY 1 | ARRIVAL AT CUSCO
A vehicle will receive you at the Cusco airport to transfer you to your hotel in the Sacred Valley. On the way, you will be able to appreciate the beautiful Andean landscape and the imposing mountains of the Andes. Once registered at your hotel, you will have the afternoon free to relax in its facilities.
DAY 2 | A LA CARTE SACRED VALLEY Explore the beautiful Sacred Valley and enjoy the cultural richness of this region where the Inca spirit and traditions are kept alive. Choose from the various walks available, which include routes through the traditional town of Chinchero, the archaeological complex of Pisac, the intriguing agricultural laboratory of Moray or the impressive salt mines of Maras. After the chosen activity, you will be transferred back to the hotel for dinner.

DAY 4 | SACRED VALLEY - MACHU PICCHU – CUSCO
Your visit to Machu Picchu begins with an hour and a half train journey through spectacular Andean landscapes to Aguas Calientes, departing from Ollanta station. From here, you will take a 25-minute bus tour to Machu Picchu, the ‘lost city of the Incas ’. The archaeological site is believed to have been built around 1450 by the Inca Pachacútec as his vacation residence. However, a century later, the city was abandoned after the Spanish conquest, saving itself from the destruction that reached other Inca settlements. Instead, the jungle slowly swallowed its stone buildings and hid it, protecting it. During the guided tour, learn about the origins of this impressive citadel, presenting its most outstanding monuments. At the end of the tour, return to Aguas Calientes to take the train to return to Cusco. *Lunch time could vary depending on the entrance to the citadel. **Kindly remind to purchase your tickets before your trip due to the limited capacity of the citadel. Entrances are subject to availability.

A LA CARTE OPTIONS FROM
SACRED VALLEY (DAY 2 & 3) Hike to the Devil's Balcony Level: Moderate Maximum Height: Chacan 12358 feet / 3767 masl Transfer from your hotel to Sacsayhuaman early in the morning. From here start the walk towards Chacán, known as El Balcón del díablo or Devil´s Balcony. This place presents a perfect harmony between nature and Inca architecture, with constructions located in the rocks that seem to be one. At the top of the cliff, a crack works as a viewpoint of the whole site. The trek continues to Zone X, known for its natural rock labyrinths. After lunch en route, visit the Temple of the Moon. Later visit the archaeological complex of Cusilluchayoc, and after exploring it, undertake the return to Cusco. Enter the city through San Blas, a neighbourhood known for its talented artisans, where the tour ends Trek to Inkilltambo Level: Easy Duration: 3-4 hours Maximum Height: 3600 masl Inkilltambo is a ceremonial site built during the time of Inca Wiracocha. Start with a short ascent from Cusco to the Temple of the Moon. From here, continue heading down following the stream until reaching Inkilltambo (Inca Prison) where you will have a short tour and time to explore. From the Inkilltambo site, follow the original Inca trails until reaching the Kallachaka bridge where you will see colonial remains. From the bridge in Kallachaka ascend to more archaeological remains and views of Cusco until reaching the forgotten Rumi Wasi. From here, take a car back to your hotel. Pisac Level: Easy Maximum Height: 10827 pft / 3300 masl Pisac is one of the most important and impressive archaeological complexes in the region. It includes agricultural terraces, aqueducts, a residential settlement, temples and the largest known Inca cemetery. The exploration begins by ascending the platforms where the various Inca buildings are seen. After this visit, descend to the town of Pisac to have lunch and discover the famous local artisan market. Chinchero -Urquillos Level: Moderate. Good physical condition required. Duration: 6 - 7 hours Maximum height: Chinchero: 12040 ft / 3670 masl Start in Chinchero, a small and picturesque Inca town where you will learn about textile and artisan work in the area. From Chinchero you will continue to Urquillos, a town located at 2980 meters above sea level where Inca platforms, a temple and colonial haciendas are preserved. Perolniyoc Level: Moderate Duration: 6 hours Maximum height: 3460 masl Perolniyoc is one of the most impressive natural sites that can be observed in the Cusco region. To get here, take the bus from Cusco to Ollantaytambo. From then on head to the town of Socma. Walk through a path for about 1 hour until reaching the waterfall. If you want to explore further, follow the uphill path for 1.5 hours more. Once at the top, you will be able to appreciate a wonderful view of the Sacred Valley, as well as visit the pre-Inca and Inca archaeological site called Raqaypata. Finally, you must return by the same path, until reaching the town of Socma. Moray, Maras and Pichingoto Level: Moderate Duration: 5 - 7 horas Maximum height: Moray: 11482 pies / 3500 msnm Moray consists of mysterious concentric circular platforms, which for some scholars would be a centre for agricultural research. Then, you will make a stop at Maras, an impressive salt extraction complex made up of large deposits of pink salt. Later, you will descend to the Pichingoto people, a Quechua community that maintains the traditions of their ancestors. Patacancha, Huilloc, Pumamarca and Ollantaytambo Level: Moderate Duration: 7-8 horas Maximum height: Patacancha: 15091.86 ft / 4600 masl Arrive at the Huilloc community to learn about the customs of this town, and you will participate in a demonstration of one of the ancestral activities of Andean life. Then, you will depart to the archaeological site of Pumamarca, made up of structures such as platforms, roads and channels. Later you will visit the town of Ollantaytambo which has been continuously inhabited since the time of the Inca Empire. Cachicata trek Level: Moderate. Good physical condition required. Duration: 6 - 7 hours hike Maximum height: Cachicata: 10531 feet / 3209 masl Explore the imposing Ollantaytambo complex and appreciate the panoramic view of the town. The walk continues to the Cachicata quarry (3,210 masl), a place dedicated to the carving and extraction of stones which served to build Ollantaytambo and other nearby areas. Choquechaca - Huchuy Qosqo
Level: Moderate Duration: 8 hours Maximum height: Puka Ccasa: 14557 ft / 4437 masl Visit one of the banks of the Piuray lagoon, up to the community of Tauca, where the walk begins. Take a gently sloping trail, up to Pucajasa (4393 masl); where you will have a spectacular view of the Urubamba mountain range. You will arrive at Huchuy Qosqo (3650 masl) and visit the archaeological complex. Finally, you will descend to the town of Lamay (2941 masl), where a vehicle will take you back to the hotel. Pumamarca - Ollantaytambo Level: Moderate Duration: 6-7 hours Maximum height: Huilloc: 12467 ft / 3800 masl The walk begins at the archaeological site of Pumamarca, made up of structures such as platforms, roads and channels. Later you will visit the town of Ollantaytambo, which has been continuously inhabited since the time of the Inca Empire. A LA CARTE OPTIONS FROM CUSCO (DAY 5) Hike to Vinicunca Level: Challenging Maximum height: 5200 masl Vinicunca, or the mountain of 7 colours, is a natural work of art at 5,200 metres above sea level. Its tonalities are due to the accumulation of minerals over time, carried by the waters of the mountain range, the winds and the humidity. You will leave early in the morning from Cusco in the direction of Cusipata. You will continue your journey and arrive at the starting point of the trek. The trail is surrounded by beautiful landscapes of the Andes and guarded by the majestic Ausangate Mountai. After a few minutes at the viewpoint of the mountain to take some pictures and rest, you will start the hike back to Phullawasipata and then return to your hotel in Cusco. Hike to Nevado Chicón Level: Moderate Duration: 12 hours Maximum height: 4650 masl During the morning you will be picked up from your hotel in Cusco and transferred to the town of Ocuruyoc from where you will start the trek to the imposing Chicon Mountain. The trek begins with an ascent to 4650 meters above sea level, where the beautiful Juchuycocha lagoon is located. Enjoy the magnificent view and then continue until you reach the majestic Chicon glacier, which is also the highest point of the Urubamba mountain range. After box lunch you will have time to explore the surroundings of this wonderful place. Then, start the return to the town of Ocuruyoc, from where you will be transferred back to your hotel in Cusco. Hike to Palcoyo mountain Level: Moderate Duration: 9 hours Maximum height: 4930 masl Pick up from your hotel to the starting point of the hike to the impressive coloured mountain range of Palcoyo. Like the 7-colour mountain of Vinicunca, Palcoyo acquires this colouration due to minerals such as iron, magnesium, calcium, among others. Unlike Vinicunca, getting to the top of the Palcoyo mountain range is of a moderate level and very accessible since it is a 2-hour walk without significant slopes, reaching a maximum elevation of 4,900 meters above sea level. Upon arrival, enjoy the beautiful view of the mountain. This experience is carried out following the established routes and regulations for its conservation, collaborating with the sustainability of this natural wonder. Hike to Qeswachaka Level: Moderate Duration: 7 hours Maximum height: 3700 masl Picked up from your hotel, where we will drive for 2 hours to Lake Pomacanchis (3,600 m.a.s.l.). After a few minutes, we continue to Lake Acopia. We move to the tiny volcano of Yanaoca, to the Abra de Yanaoca. We continue to the Qeswachaka bridge. This is the last Inca bridge used over the Apurimac River and the grass fibers of the bridge are renewed every year. The Qeswachaka bridge is located on the other side of the Apurimac River, at approximately 3,700 m.a.s.l. in the province of Canas. This hand-woven grass bridge has a span of 120 feet and is rebuilt every year as a community effort of the entire local population of the region. After lunch you will be transferred to your hotel. Tour to Humantay lagoon Level: Moderate Duration: 12 hours Maximum height: Humantay 4200 msnm Depart from the city of Cusco for one of the most spectacular hiking excursions there is through the Andes Mountains, and immerse yourself in the stunning scenery, rich culture and vast history of this area of the world. Make your way through the archaeological site of Tarawasi near the town of Limatambo (1.5 hours from Cusco). From this point start the two-hour ascent to the Humantay Lagoon (above 4200 masl) and have lunch at the site. Finally, begin the descent to Soraypampa for approximately 1.15 hours, where a bus awaits you to return to Cusco. |
