Huilo Huilo is part of a unique ecosystem in the Patagonian Rainforest, a region which is still relatively unexplored. Their engagement in scientific research and conservation in this area is internationally recognized. The Valdivian ecoregion is one the 25 most valued and endangered ecoregions on the planet. Recognized as a biodiversity hotspot (Myers et al., 2000), its biological importance is due to its high amount of endemic species, its great variety of habitats and its unique vegetation.
Unesco declared the Patagonian Temperate Rainforest, which stretches over an area of 2,000,000 hectares, a World Biosphere Reserve in 2007. The Huilo Huilo Biological Reserve is located at the very centre of this rainforest. It consists of 100,000 hectares of luxuriant nature: a surprisingly diverse biology, glacial lakes, a multitude of rivers, the greatest diversity of fern species in continental Chile and a great number of endangered species. This area is very different from the Patagonian pampas farther south. There are 10 different options for lodging at Huilo Huilo:
REGULAR TRANSFERS
All the programs mentioned above (except the Essential program) include regular transfers based on an schedule, from/to Puerto Montt airport & Temuco airport. Also from Pucon and Puerto Varas centrally located hotels. They also offer private transportation at an additional rate. At the end of each itinerary description you will find the itinerary for the regular transfer and the rate for the ones in private ARGENTINA SERVICES They also offer private transportation to San Martin de Los Andes and vice versa, quoted on request as rates changes depending on the group size and season. Is a private transfer from Huilo Huilo to Puerto Fuy to take the ferry that goes on Pirihueico Lake, at Puerto Pirihueico a van will pick up the passengers and take them to San Martin, passing Chile and Argentina customs. It take around half day from one point to the other. - Huilo Huilo > Puerto Fuy: 15 min - Puerto Fuy>Puerto Pirihueico: 1 hr 30 min - Puerto Pirihueico> San Martin De Los Andes: 2-3 hrs approx. At Huilo Huilo they offer different all inclusive programs, that include shared transportation IN/OUT Huilo Huilo, the excursions mentioned on each program, Full Board, accommodation based in STD room with optional upgrade, and expert bilingual guide (Spanish/English). There are also several programs that are not all-inclusive (For all programs min required 2 passengers).
