Coffee Region Trek
Day 1 - arrival to Armenia, where you will be met by an English-speaking guide and transferred to Salento. Then visit a traditional coffee farm for a coffee tour. Today you will learn everything about the world of coffee and the entire process from the bush until the finished cup of coffee. During this unique tour you will experience this process on a coffee plantation first hand. You will get to know how is the daily work of a coffee farmer. Your coffee expert will share with you the whole knowledge of coffee and will reveal you some secrets of planting, harvesting, washing and drying the coffee. Get carried away by the smell and taste of one of the best coffees of the world – the Colombian one! And at the end of the tour you will learn how to prepare a cup of coffee. For this excursion you will visit a traditional coffee farm of the region. The tour lasts around two and a half hours. You will have an English speaking guide.
Overnight at Reserva El Cairo. The hotel prides itself in creating an atmosphere dedicated to provide ecotourism in Salento, Quindio; an area that is part of the Coffee Cultural Landscape of Colombia. This region was recognized in 2011 as a World Heritage Site by UNESCO, which is a testament to the outstanding example of Sustainable Production and Cultural landscape of Salento. The project is developed in a beautiful coffee house that is more than 100 years old, surrounded by 100 acres of amazing landscape. It is located three kilometers (3 km) away from the town of Salento on the road to the Cocora valley. In the 100 acres that surround the house there is a forest with an inventory of more than 140 species of birds, more than 200 species of trees and shrubs and also a primary forest with river, waterfalls and different species of wax palm (Ceroxylon Alpinum and Ceroxylon Quindiuense) the biggest palm in the world with heights up to 60 meters. Day 2 - Salento is the oldest municipality in the department of Quindío, therefore its traditional architecture and craft workshops make it an unforgettable place. There you can see colonial houses painted in colors, balconies full of flowers and even better, you will enjoy the warmth of its people that will make your visit a great experience.We will also enjoy a hike in the Cocora Valley, where the national tree of Colombia, the Wax Palm, is located. Surely the palms will attract your attention, since their height is up to 70 meters, being one of the highest palms in the world. Let yourself be amazed by all the beauty of the landscape in the walk through the trails of the valley. The hike in the valley lasts around 2 hours. We will finish the afternoon enjoying a delicious lunch and playing traditional games such as the "Tejo" or the "Rana", accompanied by a Colombian beer. Transportation, hydration during the hike, typical lunch and traditional games with a beer are included. This tour lasts approximately 7 hours. You will have an English speaking guide. 4-5 hours return from the Cocora Valley to the Acaime reserve of the hummingbirds . In case you need a specialized birdwatching guide, please ask us for the extra cost. Day 3 - The tour starts at 7:00 am on a private estate where nature lovers have the opportunity to visit one of the most iconic places in the coffee region. The Barbas Bremen Regional Natural Park covers 9,651 hectares and has rainforest on one side, and pine and cypress plantations on the other side, and it offers visitors the chance to hear and potentially see the beautiful howler monkeys (Alouatta Seniculus) and a large diversity of birds and flora. The greatest richness of species of this place are made up by the plants and birds, followed by the howler monkeys, amphibians and reptiles, which you will see during the tour. Additionally, you may be able to admire the Ruby Frog (poison-dart frog that is endemic to Colombia).Furthermore, you have the opportunity to plant a tree to contribute to a conservation project and reforestation of the reserve. On top of that, you can visit the organic garden of the farm and, accompanied by the owner who loves the kitchen, you can pick the vegetables and food to prepare your lunch. In the afternoon you will drive to Filandia and visit the basket museum, a very symbolic place in the region. There you will participate in a basket weaving workshop, create your own basket and learn about the importance and value of the traditional craft of the region. At the end of the afternoon and to end your experience for today, you will go to the viewpoint of the hill to enjoy the scenery. Overnight at Reserva El Cairo. Day 4 - after breakfast, transfer to the airport with a Spanish-speaking driver. |
