The cruise will start in Manaus, and go deep into the Amazon, where you will feel the essence of the Rain Forest. M/V Desafio (which in English means “Challenge”) is a great 34-meter three-masted sailing ship, it provides the highest standard service available in the Amazon Region. With only 12 cabins, it accommodates a maximum of 24 passengers, ideal for those who want to explore the Amazon with privacy, comfort and the unique intimacy of sharing the experience of a lifetime with a handful of new-found friends and the ability to discover the deserted tributaries of the Amazon in ways not possible for larger vessels. This is a four-day cruise visiting the Anavilhanas Archipelago, the largest river archipelago in the world, and its igarapés (permanent river channels) and igapós (non-permanent river channels). Due to its acid waters, endemic mosquitoes are practically inexistent. The cruise also includes daily explorations and activities in safe motorized boats into the jungle, as well as a rich Amazonian cuisine served in the panoramic restaurant.
DAY 1 - Thursday
Departure from Manaus Tropical Hotel pier at 2pm to board the M/V DESAFIO, your floating hotel for the next three nights. Once on board, the multilingual naturalist guide will host a“welcome to the Amazon” briefing highlighting the broad spectrum of life in this unique region. The guide will assist in the identification of the flora / fauna, provide a historical framework and enrich your ecological understanding of this unusual destination and of the natural world. After dinner, enjoy an excursion by canoe to listen to the night sounds of the jungle. dinner DAY 2 - FRIDAY Early this morning, leave on a jungle trekking excursion to learn about the local flora, amongst the richest in the world. After lunch, start cruising towards the Samauma village, located at the Anavilhanas Islands, the largest river archipelago in the world. Later this afternoon, board a motor canoe to visit the surrounding lakes. After dinner, experience the excitement of searching for and spotting caimans. breakfast, lunch, dinner DAY 3 - SATURDAY Early rise to watch the sunrise and see thousands of birds come out of their nocturnal hiding places to feed. After breakfast, go on a fishing expedition to catch one of the many hundreds of species found in the river, including the aggressive piranha. The rest of the day is spent exploring the river meeting world’s greatest ecosystem. breakfast, lunch, dinner DAY 4 - SUNDAY After breakfast, you’ll reach the “meeting of the waters”. This is where Negro and Solimoes Rivers meet each other to form the great Amazon River. After a stop to view this fascinating sight, continue cruising back to Manaus. for docking at the pier at 11am.
