Best of Rio Area Hiking - 12 days

For those who like to hike on their vacation, we have this package that combines hiking in Rio + the famous Petropolis to Teresopolis trek in the Serra dos Orgãos + some spectacular hiking along the beaches and in the mountains around Paraty. A lot of different environments without adding any more flights!

Day 1 - arrive Rio airport, where you will be met and transferred to the Copa Sul Hotel
Day 2 - breakfast, then start the day with a tour to the world famous Christ the Redeemer statue. Later do a light trek on Sugar Loaf mountain. You will be able to climb Morro da Urca, the first of the 2 mountains. It´s a short but fairly steep hike (45 minutes to 1 hour), which is a good way to test one´s physical ability. You will continue to the Sugar Loaf with the cable car. 
Day 3 - breakfast, then today we do an inspiring trek up Dois Irmãos mountain. The trek is done in 4 stages. You will enjoy a nice warm-up through a walk along the coast line until reaching the Vidigal community. We´ll use local transportation in a public van climbing to the top of the favela. You then start a 45 minute – 1 hour hike through the forest (several spectacular viewpoints along the way). After enjoying a nice refreshment and the stunning views over Rio, it is time to walk down through the forest and the Vidigal favela. This is a great way to better understand the day-to-day life of the favela in a healthy way. We'll enjoy lunch like a local in a ¨kilo” restaurant (you are charged by the weight of your food).
Day 4 - breakfast, then today you start the beginning of the Serra dos Orgãos trek. Transfer to Petropolis (former residence of the Emperor) where you start a 6 hour trek from the Petropolis park entrance (1125m) to Castelos do Açu (2200m). You will have fantastic views over Baia de Guanabara during the climb, and a chance to enjoy a fantastic sunset from Morro do Açu. Day 5 - today you have about a 7 hour trek from Castelos do Açu to Pedra do Sino. You'll have stunning views at Portais de Hercules before you arrive at Pedra do Sino, the highest point of the Serra dos Orgãos (2263m). Day 6 - Enjoy the sunrise from Pedra do Sino before starting on a 4 hour trek to Teresopolis (871m). Along the way you will walk in the forest and get the opportunity to observe fauna and flora at different altitudes. Then transfer to Paraty along the Costa Verde and overnight at Pousada do Principe. Day 7 - breakfast, then free day to rest before trekking to the Joatinga península or you can do optional activities such as a day cruise, kayak, Stand-up paddle, rafting, cycling, canyoning, Eco-farmvisit, zipline, gold-trail hike, or just enjoying the quaint streets of Paraty. Day 8 - breakfast, then do a 3-4 hour hike along some of the nicest beaches in the Peninsula to Ponta Negra. Optional walk to a local waterfall on arrival. Night in the fishing village of Ponta Negra. Day 9 - today you'll do a 4-5 hour hike to the Saco Bravo waterfall with its naturally formed infinity pool perched on the rocky coastline overlooking the sea. Then you'll have a chance to observe the village life when returning there (Football with locals, observe the islanders fishing, visit to the flour house,…) And you'll enjoy amazing seafood! Day 10 - today you'll hike the 2 hour trail to the Mamangua tropical fjord. There you will switch to a canoe and paddle about 2 hours to the mangrove and observe its rich wildlife. In the evening, enjoy cocktails & dinner at the peaceful bayside. Day 11 - Today, cross the bay to climb the imposing Mamangua Sugarloaf peak. It's a steep hike from the beach to the top (440m) for the best views of the region (2-3 hours walk). Then take a boat trip to Paraty with swimming opportunities along the way. Night in Paraty at Pousada do Principe. Day 12 - breakfast, then transfer to São Paulo or Rio de Janeiro to end your trip or begin another adventure somewhere else in Brazil. |
