Buenos Aires and wine are probably the things that most people think about when the subject of Argentina comes to mind. Since almost a third of the countries' population lives in Buenos Aires and the wines of Argentina have become so renowned, it is easy to understand why, but the country has so much more to offer visitors. First of all, Argentina is a large country - the eighth largest country in the world. It ranges from the subtropics to Antarctica, from the peaks of the Andes to the Atlantic coast, so it has a great variety of scenery. Though people of Spanish and Italian descent make up the majority of the population, there is a small indigenous population that exists in rural areas and there are remnants of ancient people, such as at the ruins of Quilmes and the artifacts of the Tafi culture at the Los Menhires Archeological Reserve, which has over 50 megaliths of the Tafí 1 culture, that date back to the period between 820 B.C and 780 AD. Some of them reach a height of 3 meters and a weight of 4 tons. Since the writing on them resembles that see on Celtic relics, they are sometimes referred to as Argentina's blarney stones. For lovers of wildlife, Argentina has wetlands similar to the renowned Brazilian Pantanal and the Atlantic coast, which is a treasure trove for marine animals such as whales, dolphins, penguins, sealions and seals.
