Though you can read all types of lists of animals that have been spotted in certain areas over the years, wildlife is bound by no rules and does not always cooperate with hopeful viewers. Some of the lodges in the Tambopata Reserve area combined sighting statistics from 2014 and came up with these results: Note: now that Refugio Amazonas is offering an option to visit the Chuncho clay lick, the percentage of macaw sightings there will be higher Of course the variety of species is going to depend somewhat on the type of ecosystem the lodge is located in. For instance if you want to see tapirs, then maybe a lodge near a mammal lick, such as the Heath River Wildlife Center would be better for you. Or somewhere like the Amazonia lodges might be good because they have access to several different ecosystems (the main lodge has access to terra firma, varzea, flooded forest, oxbow lakes and the research center has high and low restinga, bajial and palm swamps). ut don't expect to see every species list on a lodge checklist if you only stay for a short period of time, like 3-4 days! And you have to get out and explore - the animals are not just going to parade by the lodge.
